Did this series peak too early?

Today's Saturday debate for you

I think this series had a strong start with storage vs the house, the Ali-Khaled feud, some of the early tasks like the politician one, the first HoH, Lily's antics etc. There were also some good eviction results like Izaaz going.

I feel like it's dropped off some way in the last week or two though. Dean's meltdown kept it a bit interesting but HoH really became too repetitive after Dean and Ali, the tasks haven't lived up to their potential, the showmance has ruined two otherwise good housemates and generally the pacing has felt off. There's been so much interference with the nomination process that we have only had normal noms twice and we haven't had a single eviction where nominations were not messed with because of the HoH powers

I also think a lot of the housemates have fizzled out a bit. We haven't seen much growth in a lot of them and honestly they've all pretty much behaved as I'd have expected from launch night. The great thing for me last year was that a lot of housemates went on a real journey and Jordan, Henry, Yinrun, Noky and Olivia all had major ups and downs in there. Can you say the same for Segun, Thomas, Emma, Nathan, BP, Hanah? You could maybe say it for Sarah, Ali and Marcello

Also thinking back to last year so much happened in the final two weeks. We had:

- Paul/Dylan double eviction
- Chanelle, Jenkin and Tom having a meltdown over it
- Olivia starting to question her allegiances
- Jenkin being a wanker on his birthday
- Chanelle losing immunity due to a rule break and ending up evicted
- Trish being evicted after the whole crowd was chanting 'Trish for the win'
- Jenkin, Jordan and Tom in the secret room
- Jenkin and Tom double eviction
- Matty's iconic eviction

All leaving us with a brilliant final 5. Expect there's a lot that I missed there as well. This series doesn't feel on the same level at all imo and I fear we're in for a rather dull final week.

I think it’s definitely been an improvement as a whole on last years series. Typically in BB history the last week or two aren’t that interesting (mainly because all the bores are left)

last year fizzled out after 2 weeks and went way way downhill till it ended

Yeah, I found the last two weeks of last year quite a drag as it was so fixated on the love triangle.

The love triangle was pretty wrapped up by the final week though with Jordan going for Henry

Was still more interesting than the Nathan/BP romance as well

The final week got more interesting. But I have most shoelaces, but yeah BP/Nathans is cringey.

..............and now for the quiet last week when HM's have not only found their position in the house but are careful not to upset anyone

…my keyboard does that also…thing is when it auto corrects and amends stuff, it often invents words/sentences that don’t make sense at all…

I've not liked the continuous Head of House. The obsession of keeping Lily and Ali in when yes... It's sad when entertaining housemates go but it leaves scope to see more of the others and cracks start to form with other housemates anyway.
Next series please just go back to normal nominations.

I think feelings towards an end of the series is dependent on whether your favourites remain or not. The one positive about last year is I think most were supportive of Henry, Jordan and Yinrun, despite losing a fan favourite - at the time - in Trish.

This year, I think, is more polarising, with people liking one group and not the other and, going into that further, not liking any group as a whole, so it's not as 'easy' to see them interact. Also last year has a clearly defined 'good' group and 'bad' group. At this point it was clear the 'good' group would win out. It's not as obvious this year and, for many (though not all), Nathan seemingly being vindicated is leaving a bitter taste in the mouth too.

True, there are more shades of grey this year which is arguably a good thing but it also means I'm not that enthused about any of them

Even if they were keeping HoH they could have surely been more creative with it. Giving all four HoHs the killer nom/save and replace option was far too repetitive (although it did get Dean out)

The last two weeks of this series doesn’t feel like a chore to watch unlike last series

I agree and I think that's where the show needs balance. Drama is great but there needs to be investment in it too. And, when it feels like there isn't a good or bad side, or that the latter is winning out, it's harder to invest.

I hate the HOH and interference in nominations,it feels like It's trying to copy the American BB .

Yes have the odd twist here and there ,but it got very annoying very quickly .

it really wasn't it was a cringefest and ruined the whole series

As much as I disliked Dylan and Paul. The series died after they went last year.

You just had the bedroom crew just being all lovey dovey and Chanelle and Jenkin and Tom sulking every episode. It was dire.

GlitterUK 09-11-2024 04:43 PM

This year more than ever they have who they wanted to win Lily or Ali from the start and have pushed that agenda. Live feed viewers have a more rounded view on things as highlight viewers only see what they want you to see.

Thomas is the perfect example, he isn't any lesser character than the others. They just fail to show him to make him the boring one.

It will be an Ali landslide now.

I think last year was propelled if you found Henry, Jordan and Yinrun interesting. If so, it was fine. If not, it was a massive chore. I do think there needed to be more of an opposing dynamic which, as you say, was missing when Dylan and Paul left.
