Trees at autumn time Gate.

So I have a big massive tree on the pavement outside my home. Not on my garden or on my drive, on the pavement. Autumn has meant all the leaves have dropped. Wind carries them down the road. Nearly every day I see a neighbour quite far down the road a fairly elderly woman sweeping them all up from the road and leaving them outside the tree and lots keep coming in my garden now. So today I put it upon myself to collect all these leaves put them in my garden bin and I also sort outside neighbours drives either side of me. Felt sorry for the woman who kept doing it but also annoyed she kept putting them at the tree. Anyway the jobs done for the year now. But who would you say is responsible for the big tree??

I wouldn't imagine sweeping leaves is something the council would do. I would say that anyone on your road who is annoyed by them should do it

…I would say the council if they’re council maintained roads/paths…?…some are private/owner responsibility though …well done though, Jake…the only gate there is atm is a clear gate/lots of clear gates so great job……

Some councils sweep leaves in order to clear drains etc but on main roads mostly

Leaves on your own property are your concern

"a fairly elderly woman"

she is probably 52

Its me...bit stupid to sweep up and leave them at the tree, get them in the bin

Its the Councils job if its on the road

I agree if the tree is not in a garden and on public property is the councils job. They’ll soon regret it when the elderly lady slips on them a breaks her hip.

Yes let the Nice Old Lady
clear it.

You are Lucky to have her
in your road.

Are leaves a problem? We rake them at the front of the house and drive, but the rest just biodegrade eventually. We had plane trees on our street when I lived in London. People would sweep them out of their own front garden, can't remember anyone clearing leaves in the street.

I wouldnt usually but it's because the biddy down the street keeps sweeping them all up and putting them outside my house as that's where the tree is, so I've had to clear them all, leaves are a hazard when weather starts to freeze like it has this week. Lots of wet leaves clumped together if it freezes overnight that's a slip hazard. But I'm pretty sure the council should be sending road sweepers down the road but I haven't seen one on this road in ages. Probably why the biddy took it upon herself to sweep them.

It's not the fact she's sweeping them that's the problem it's the fact she's swept them all back outside my house!

Can't you ask her to stop and point out it's not your tree? The wind will only blow them back? I can't understand anyone going to the trouble of sweeping them, then not putting them in the bin. Shake her by the shoulders, Jake.

That’s as daft as one of our neighbours regularly asking us to stop our cat crapping in their garden years ago !!

The last time the guy mentioned it I advised him that our cat had died the year before .. very satisfying conclusion to that particular episode
