Next month then when Blue Sky fails to take Twitter down, just like Mastedon also failed to take Twitter down, and Trump's one also failed to take Twitter down before either of the other two tried to.

When it comes to left leaning Social Media platforms (ignoring Truth Social as it's not left leaning) there will be no platform bigger than Twitter, and this Don Lemmon guy knows this, but is being performative to look good to his fanbase.

But eventually he'll need to start earning that precious dough again, and will need to return to Twitter by reaching out to a bigger audience.

[But eventually he'll need to start earning that precious dough again]

He was Stupid to do his new show only on Twitter.

He could go to YouTube
for example Mock.

arista 14-11-2024 05:47 AM

Twitter (X)
does not need Don Lemon.

arista 14-11-2024 09:24 AM

Also leaving Twitter X
is the Guardian Newspaper

They have run away

arista 14-11-2024 09:30 AM

[The Guardian
announced that we will no longer post on
any official Guardian editorial accounts
on the social media site X (formerly Twitter).
We think that the benefits of being
on X are now outweighed by the negatives
and that resources could be
better used promoting our content elsewhere.

This is something we have been considering for
a while given the often disturbing content
promoted or found on the platform.
The US presidential election campaign served
only to underline what we have considered
for a long time: that X is a toxic media platform
and that its owner, Elon Musk, has been able
to use its influence to shape political discourse.]

:laugh2:

they cant afford the subscription

Don Lemon has always been a bit of a tit

I've no idea why anyone would decide to not continue on X as a result of the election. It hasn't changed

No platform will be bigger than twitter once was, but I suspect social media is going to diversify into a number of more focused social platforms, rather than one or two centralised platforms. Will take a few years but its coming.

IMO mass social media is dying, and that's not a bad thing. Except for the likes of Musk who have manipulated it to their own ends (and killed it in the process).

If you think it can't happen, ask yourself how many people are still using Facebook more than once every couple of months, and who those people are. Twitter can absolutely fall.

bots 16-11-2024 09:21 PM

The more varied the choices of social media the better. Musk's interest in X will disappear until he and trump fall out, which is inevitable. Two people like that can't exist in the same space for long

Why give a lengthy explanation nobody will read. Just say you are closing up on the platform. Nobody probably cares. I'm sure if they got enough traffic through X, they'd continue it.

Isn't Facebook the fourth most viewed site in the world or something like that?

And personally I wouldn't mind a more Forum feel coming to Social Media with smaller communities forming, but I honestly don't believe that it will ever happen due to Facebook and Twitter's dominance in the Social Media space.

BlueSky is slowly growing
he could try that as a backup

Yes
Some Academics are sad the Guardian
has left Twitter (X)

They do not mind if they post a Guardian link

So Some Writers will use the Guardian link,
instead of sad BBC

Facebook is still huge but if you compare it to, say, it's 5 year peak - EVERYONE was on there, from your most devout MAGA to your most colourful progressive. Your 13 year old nephew and your 80 year old nan. Bob posting jokes from the work van and June the champagne socialist on her first-class flight to help out in Africa. Everyone.

It's still massively viewed, but the demographics have (inevitably?) shifted in one clear direction. There's now quite clearly, "The Sort Of Folk Who Use Facebook", and the vast majority of people either still have an old account kicking about that they check in on every few months, or simply don't have an account at all.

Twitter will go the same way. It'll still get engagement, but it'll all be from the "lol cry more" Brexit/MAGA trolls, the melting pot effect of it will lessen because it relies on conflict. There will be no one to argue with. Just a circle-jerk.

As often is the case -- TiBB can show you an early microcosm of this effect. We hit boiling point of engagement a few years back and now it's 90% echo chamber and that's increasing.

The other thing that you'll notice is...

When there's no one around to be irritated by the wind-up... the frequency of posts drops off.

And people (everyone, let's be honest) are getting bored now.

That'll happen on Twitter.

Most academics are also leaving Twitter.

Because the platform is politically and economically toxic, and if you can encourage even one or two people to stop using it on the way out of the door, that's worth the post.

Why do you care that they gave a lengthy explanation that no one will read? It took two minutes out of their day and - presumably, as "no one will read it" - zero time out of anyone elses' day.

Yet you're questioning why they did it, and seem to not like that they did .

Why is that I wonder. Why would it matter?

i've seen quite a few commentators saying they are moving to bluesky. I think threads discourages politics hence people moving to bluesky

Crimson Dynamo 17-11-2024 06:17 PM

I remember the Trump supporters thought that Truth Social would destroy Twitter and it failed miserably at the attempt.

And you might have a point about Facebook, because I only mainly talk to family members on there these days, and talk about Music.
