Zambia admitted after the 2021 Tokyo Olympics that Banda’s testosterone
levels exceeded Confederation of African Football requirements

A Zambian player who was withdrawn from a 2022 tournament after failing to
meet gender eligibility rules has been named BBC Women’s Footballer of the
Year.

Barbra Banda, who scored a hat-trick at the Paris Olympics and has become
the second-highest scorer in the United States’ National Women’s Soccer
League this season, won the award from a five-player shortlist including
Spain’s Aitana Bonmati, winner of the female Ballon d’Or. Banda, a striker,
received the most votes from BBC readers after being shortlisted by a panel
of what the BBC said were “experts involved in football” including coaches
players and non-BBC journalists.

“All players had to undergo gender verification, a CAF [Confederation of
African Football] requirement, and unfortunately she did not meet the criteria
set by CAF.” Telegraph Sport established last year that Banda had never
undergone a test and was de-selected for the competition as a pre-emptive
measure.

Before turning to football Banda competed as a professional boxer, winning
all five bouts.

Olympian Sharron Davies, a staunch advocate for women’s safety in sport,
said on X: “It’s so sad the BBC are actively encouraging the destruction &
loss of opportunities for female athletes in sport. I’m so disheartened &
disappointed they are actively cheering this unfairness on.”

No thoughts on Chelsea women’s record signing .. a big , bruising striker from Colombia .. ..she runs through opposition defences with strapping defenders bouncing off her … she scores most games

Rumours suggesting ‘she’ used to be a bloke have mysteriously disappeared from the Wiki page and a few other sources .. they completely removed her personal life tab from wiki

I wondered if Chelsea had set their legal team on them ??

Even these two TikTok pages have been ‘wiped clean of any trans references ALTHOUGH the original links highlighting her transgender past are still visible- as per photo below

Sharron :clap1: dont worry everyone this is just a figment of your over hormonal imagination, its not happening, it would never happen, women wont be disadvantaged..... something about bathrooms....yadda yadda

I heard a transwoman on Sheila Fogerty today say with a straight face that transwomen are much more likely to experience violence than women and girls.....

Heres a stat for Aeriel...

Globally, 85,000 women and girls were killed intentionally in 2023. 60 per cent of these homicides—51,000—were committed by an intimate partner or other family member. 140 women and girls die every day at the hands of their partner or a close relative, which means one woman or girl is killed every day..

It really sucks to be a young sportswoman in this age of chicanery. Can't even trust the results.

Livia 26-11-2024 05:45 PM

I don't disagree with trans women in sport, but they must have their own category.

Trans men are very quiet about insisting on competing with men, aren't they. It's almost like there's no advantage for them.

Sharron Davies MBE @sharrond62

Of all the fabulous females footballers the world over the bbc deliberately chose
a male to be the best woman’s footballer of the Year! It’s trolling plain &
simple. Shameful.

You know, and i know, and everyone knows that trans men will never, ever complete against biological men in sport, any sport. And we all know why. Trans women have an obvious advantage against biological women, it's just so wrong on every level. But you see, that doesn't matter, the far left want their own way, and they get it for the most part. They couldn't care less about others, not one jot, they only care about their side. If you question it, you're a bigot, a hater, a phobe. Same old sh!t every time. It's their way, or no way.

But you see, when people are blunt on the subject of trans women in biological women's sport, it's seen as transphobia, it is not however, it's just common sense. 99% of people have no problem if someone is trans, we just get on with our own lives, live and let live, be who you like, good luck to you etc. But it's absolutely bonkers when biological men are winning women's footballer of the year awards. There has been a big push in trying to get more eyes on the women's game, especially since the Lionesses won the Euro's, and it's worked, more people, boys, girls, women, men are watching women's football. But things like this just make a mockery of the whole thing. This is just a massive "F U" to those little girls training their whole lives to be footballers, making it, winning cups for their country and bringing their game more into the mainstream.

Like Serena Williams (arguably the best female tennis star of all time) once said, if you put her in a match with Andy Murray it would last about 10 mins and he'd easily win in straight sets.

It was a public vote was it not?

Glenn. 19-12-2024 01:13 PM

She’s actually a cis female…

Glenn. 19-12-2024 01:17 PM

she was on the receiving end of abuse with hundreds of comments accusing her of being “a man” and “cheating” other female athletes out of the prize.

The accusations stem from reports two years ago that the Zambian football federation (Faz) withdrew Banda from its squad for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (Wafcon) in Morocco over concerns that she would fail a gender verification test, as mandated by the Confederation of African Football (Caf).
Although it was later established that she never took such a test, the president of the Zambian federation, Andrew Kamanga, said at the time: “All players had to undergo gender verification, a Caf requirement, and unfortunately she did not meet the criteria set by Caf.”

It has since been widely reported that Banda’s natural testosterone levels were above the Caf’s maximum allowance, and that she rejected hormone suppression drugs due to concerns about the potential side effects.

Banda’s agent, Anton Maksimov, clarified at the time that she was never “banned” from competing at Wafcon, and that she had not undergone any gender verification testing before the competition.

“The decision not to currently feature Barbra at the tournament is Faz’s internal decision based on their own evaluation of her physical conditions before coming to Morocco,” he said. “I reiterate that nothing, no existing regulations that we are aware of, prevents Barbra’s participation in the Wafcon 2022. Barbra has not failed any medical tests in this regard either.”

But despite the lack of evidence of wrongdoing, and despite Banda continuing her career in peace in the US, she has received waves of insults, much of which has focused on her appearance.

The BBC has also come in for major criticism despite having no role in choosing Banda as its winner. The award’s shortlist was decided by a panel of independent football experts, and the winner was then selected by public vote.
