A former resident:

[I used it to go to my grandparents' house
because an alternative route was
'too dangerous',' he told the planning inspector.
Locals giving evidence to the inquiry
included Anthony Barrett, who has acted
as an advocate for residents on the issue.

He said he had used the route since 1999
and the 'incorrect map' was obviously
wrong because 'the line on the definitive
map goes straight through the
middle of a house'.

He added: 'It would be absurd to argue
that it is in the correct place.
It is an impossibility.'

Mr Moore told the hearing the
county council admitted in 2020 that
bridleway signs by his home were
wrong and they were removed.
The legal dispute began in December
that year when Mr Morris demanded access.

In a sworn statement, he said:
'When I purchased the property,
I was not made aware of the existence
of a bridleway crossing the property.'

The planning inquiry was adjourned
for a site visit to take place early next month.]

You can't block a footpath or bridle way, it doesn't matter what your house is worth.

Looks like it runs parallel to the house not through it? They should consider themselves lucky to live next to such a charming public path

My brother owns a small piece of land in a small village it sits in a triangle between three roads
Years ago people would trespass, use it as a footpath
What a lot of people don’t know is if someone trips on that path you own the land they can take every penny you own

My brother fenced up the path for that reason and because it was people trespassing

He got a letter from the council with a number of people demanding the foot path be re opened

My brother responded that with it was trespass and a make shift short cut

The previous owner who was old had a sigh up saying private

My brother said he would open up access at the narrower end and the council would take on responsibility for the path

The council continued on with their investigation but after speaking to the tramps that wants to use this short cut none of them could say exactly were the path was located

So my brother won they would have to walk around it rather than take an illegal short cut

Wise brother because I have heard of this type of thing happening

Definitely plus the ground was uneven dirt with tree roots protruding

And the people using it were old taking a short cut to a doctors surgery that sat on the other side

remember when a £1.2m home used to be signifcantly expensive.

Bridle paths aren't exactly kept secret from the public.

My aunt and uncle inherited a piece of farmland which has a path through which the local gentry ride their horses, as do their local peasants (lol) and while they're within their rights to block it off or otherwise stop them ... why piss off your neighbours? When the path they follow isn't near their veg patch or animal den ...
