Christmas suggestions and tips ….
 

Just thought it would be useful to pass on any tips to make Christmas a little bit easier and/or more enjoyable.

My old mum used to tell us to do as much preparation as possible, well before the Christmas Day family gathering/meal .. which includes doing all the shopping days BEFORE .. no last minute shopping trips which are usually extremely stressful and expensive !!


My personal snippet is to put a £2 coin in each cracker - the look on the faces of children and adults is worth the expense

…that’s a bit like putting the sixpences in the pudding from the olden times…:laugh:…but without the broken teeth bit…

We used to do it years ago with a pound coin but things have moved on since those times

…yeah, I recall my mom telling me about it…I’m not sure if her family actually did it or it was just something she knows to have been done by some…I mean, sixpence would have been quite a large sum back in the day as well…to have put several sixpence in a pudding might have just been practised by wealthy folks…

Good advice, Zizu. I like the £2 coin idea very much.

My Christmas advice would be, do as much cooking prep as you possibly can on Christmas Eve. I cook my turkey on Christmas Eve so on Christmas day you've only got an hours worth of cooking, tops. And, I'm sure everyone does this anyway, wash up as you go. Oh, and have a dog... They diligently hoover up any food that gets dropped.

The best advice I can give is don't stress too much, if you forget an item its not the end of the world, buy loads of tin foil and just enjoy

(For the Christmas dinner chefs out there) - prep as much of the dinner as possible on the 24th, ideally you want things to be roasting/simmering away on their own without too much input on the day.

…hmmmmmm, I think that I’m understanding the ‘granny wears false teeth’ thing and why back in the day generations lost so many teeth when they bit into a coin….:laugh:…
