Adil Ray fat shames Luke Littler

This is appalling....two presenters who should know better

Good Morning Britain viewers were horrified at 'disgusting' comments made about darts star Luke Littler by host Adil Ray.

Fans said Adil should be 'ashamed' as he was accused of 'fat-shaming' the 17-year-old with cruel comments about his appearance and diet.

Discussing the sports news on Thursday's show, coverage of Luke's 5-2 defeat over Nathan Aspinall that secured him a place in the semi-finals of the World Darts Championship was aired. Adil then warned viewers he was about to say something that 'might not be very popular.' He continued:

"I'm a little bit worried about Littler. He's 17 and he's turning into the look of a darts player. Look at him! He's admitting to having pizzas before a match. I'd be a bit worried," he added.

Kate Garraway then said Adil need not be worried about Luke as he's 'so successful.' Doubling down, Adil replied: "He's going to get more successful and he can keep on doing it... but I don't want him to get too unhealthy."

To lighten the mood, Kate suggested Adil visit Luke's dressing room with a carrot to 'see how that goes down.' Adil joked: "Just before the final. Here you go, I've got a salad for you from Pret." While Kate and Adil giggled in the studio, viewers at home claimed to be 'disgusted' by the exchange.

People kept doing similar with Bunting yesterday pointing out he's the same age as Ronaldo. It's like yeah darts players are not finely chiselled athletes, they're more like your average bloke who spends too much time down the pub so some of them will be a bit out of shape. That's part of what makes them quite relatable and down to earth though rather than these hyper obsessed fitness freaks.

That's not to say it should be encouraged but it shouldn't be sneered at either. It is a bit meaner when it's directed at a 17 year old too especially one who's performing at such a high level in a major sport - that's surely where the focus should be

Faded minor actor who now reads an autocue for a living is jealous of a very talented kid

…I’m not familiar with the presenter or GMB in general is something that I don’t think I’ve ever watched so I watched back the relevant bit/comments…I don’t think there is any doubt that the comments weren’t said with any type of ‘concerned’ input and even then I don’t think it would have been appropriate for a presenter to give that input, regardless of his personal thoughts …but the comments were undoubtedly mocking and that was the purpose of them to be so…if there was any concern for a young person’s health/diet/lifestyle etc then mocking that young person would absolutely be a pretty awful thing to do…laugh/laugh, snigger/snigger, giggle/giggle, that’s helpful …such shabby behaviour and would it be ok to openly and publicly mock that shabby behaviour, would he consider…?…

…there are also many that have the thought of the training involved in being an athlete from childhood is quite detrimental to bone development and repeated joint injuries etc…is that something that’s open for mockery as well in young athletes who excel in their sport…?…

As he says it with his double chin.

Gross fat man himself.

Fire it.

Cherie 03-01-2025 04:41 PM

Shame Kate didn't feel strong enough to put him down, I don't think in any other sport these type of comments would be acceptable....it's because it is white working man sport essentially,.....look at some Rugby players they dont look at peak fitness but that is a middle class sport so fine and dandy

the weight of the dart thrower does not affect their capability, so it's a personal comment on the individual and not a comment on their prowess. That, to me, is what is wrong with the comment

Plus the disastrous timing ..

The last thing Luke needed today in preparation for the final was to be in the midst of a NEGATIVE media frenzy ..

The guy was having a cheap dig about Luke’s weight but hiding it behind a ‘caring’ thought.

“ Look how fat Luke is , hope he doesn’t get any fatter as health concerns will ensue “
