Why Heathrow?

So many airports that could do with another runway ....
Luton, Birmingham, Manchester.....slap in the face for drivers who are under ULEZ restrictions.... It will be a fiercely fought battle, can't see it being built in this term?

user104658 29-01-2025 01:14 PM

They've been trying to squeeze another runway into Heathrow for over 20 years, is it looking more likely to happen this time?

arista 29-01-2025 01:14 PM

Hang On
other Airports also to be Expanded
by Reeves.

Heathrow Runway 3
is needed more urgently
as it is Packed full.

Yes goes back much longer

arista 29-01-2025 01:16 PM

Of Course Mayor Khan
is against it.

But can not stop it

bots 29-01-2025 02:57 PM

Isn't the justification that the expansion will be green, with electric planes? You won't catch me on an electric plane

Well I wouldn't expect to, you'd be moving far too fast.

And in the sky.

gatwick is a great airport, especially when you use the VIP terminal.

Wouldn't it be nice if they didn't just carry on old ideas but thought outside the box

I want them to bring back the idea for the weird sky bridges for bikes, those actually sounded quite fun.

Heathrow is a chaotic hell hole. I despise travelling from there.

I wish Qatar would operate from Cardiff again. Bloody Covid ruined that.

Crimson Dynamo 29-01-2025 04:40 PM

How is net zero nutjob Milliband taking this?

arista 29-01-2025 04:50 PM

By the time
Runway 3 will be Finished
More planes will be Electric

I was there on sunday actually. and back next week.

bots 29-01-2025 04:59 PM

i think it has a lot to do with existing infrastructure. Heathrow has it in spades, all the rest of the airports don't

I always expect at least an hour to get out of heathrow when landing. the taxiing the walk to passport control and the baggage all take for ever.

Gatwick is fast if landing at the south terminal. never a queue for security.

arista 29-01-2025 05:10 PM

Gatwick
is Extending its Mega Runway

The new runway at Heathrow will not be ready until 2040....

Crimson Dynamo 29-01-2025 08:37 PM

Shambles

Well first and foremost Heathrow has to agree  and if they do there will be massive disruption to the M25 so where else would you put a new runway ...:skull: where it will cause max disruption....

Micheal O Leary was on Sky this evening saying all Rachel was talking rubbish as it would take so long to build an if she did want growth, all she had to do was to get rid of passenger airport tax and growth would be immediate....
