9 James Bond films recorded off the telly in the 80's just went for £141!

You can get the complete James Bond movies boxset on dvd for less than a quarter of that price.

That silly sod must have money to burn.

Nah, recorded with ads, you're paying for the nostalgia, the artefact. VHS collecting is niche, but yeah, the nostalgia and step back in time is what drives the market.

Some original Video Nasty tapes sell for well over £1000 on ebay.

Even as someone who can see the attraction in hanging onto old VHS tapes and even shares in it to some degree (for instance, I still have a fair few Doctor Who videos bought in the late nineties), I think this is a bit silly. Especially for home video recordings. If it's for the nostalgia in seeing old adverts, you can just as easily view hours and hours' worth of old advert compilations on YouTube, free of charge!

…it’s weird when we think really…how much people find the ads annoying so they fast forward over them and even look for ad free apps and options etc….but at what point does annoying become nostalgic and those same ads become ‘collectibles’ and niche and….well, yearned for in nostalgia…it’s a mad, mad, mad, mad world, baby….

They might be collectors items?

I was once in the company of a guy who had every top of the pops recorded, once vhs came out. Rows and Rows of tapes all dated on the side, and the bands appearing all neatly written on the back.

I have a lot of VHS tapes with programmes recorded in the 90s.

I have a dodgy bootleg VHS copy of independence day that has a whole scene missing, and despite having seen the film dozens of times as a kid, I didn't know that scene existed until watching it years later on a streaming service. I can see the appeal of these relics.
