Labour's Health Minister Andrew Gwynne MP has been Sacked

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c5y7zperkelo

[Health Minister Andrew Gwynne
has apologised for "badly misjudged"
WhatsApp messages after he was
sacked by Sir Keir Starmer.

The MP for Gorton and Denton was
also suspended from the Labour Party
after the Mail on Sunday reported,
external he had sent a string of
offensive and abusive messages,
insulting constituents,
fellow MPs and councillors.

A government spokesperson said:
"The prime minister is determined
to uphold high standards of conduct
in public office and lead a government
in the service of working people.
He will not hesitate to take action
against any minister who fails to meet
these standards, as he has in this case."]

Never cared for this guy at all.
This really doesn't surprise me.
Good that he's gone.

Yes.
I applaud him being dealt with rapidly.
I've never taken to him.

Problem is, as is always the case, with really unsavoury MPs being exposed at last.
Unless it's criminal and they are tried, depending on the punishment.
No one, government or other Parties can force an MP out.
Unless the MP resigns as an MP.

It's down to hopefully his constituents really.
It would be good to see something done in the future that would have a vehicle put in place, to demand MPs who do wrong, to HAVE to agree to a by-election or to be made to stand down.

Of course
time will tell.

Reported in today's Newspapers
another Labour MP
is on that WhatsApp group.

He will be named soon.

What like making your "voice coach" travel 50 miles on Christmas eve to see you when we all were under draconian 'Tier 4' restrictions?

i think the pensioners will love voting against him in a recall vote, however, i think it's all but impossible to hold a recall vote without there being a criminal conviction. Think Margret Covid, who hung on and on and on

[Labour under pressure to sack a Second MP
over vile WhatsApp chat after minister
is ousted for saying he hopes pensioners
who don't vote for the party
'die before the next election']

[The messages were exchanged
in a group called Trigger Me Timbers,
which Mr Gwynne shares with more
than a dozen Labour councillors,
party officials and at least one other MP,
all based on the outskirts of Manchester.
However Housing Minister Matthew Pennycook
today refused to confirm if any other members
of the group would face disciplinary action.

'I don't know, personally, what other people
on that WhatsApp conversation
have said… I've being very clear, there's an
investigation taking place into the
whole incident,' he told Sunday Morning
With Trevor Phillips on Sky News.

Meanwhile, the MP himself apologised for
his 'badly misjudged comments'.

But shadow Cabinet Office minister
Alex Burghart said a message about an
elderly constituent was 'sort of quite a nasty
attempt to do down an old person'
and 'sort of reflects the attitude that
the Labour Party seems to have
to elderly voters generally'.

He said a message in which Mr Gwynne
is said to have written that someone's
name sounded 'too Jewish' is 'sinister'.]

One of those grown ups in charge..the one for health, I think...

Well, he had a whats app group chat called "trigger me timbers" him and some other lefty adults used it to wish death on constituents.. a bit childish in my opinion. Also stupid of you to make that moronic statement.

I'm not concerned about banter or insulting between MPs.
I don't think Ryan's issue is a story at present.
I say at present because let's see what else surfaces.

However the stupidity of some MPs or even councillors who must surely realise now what they say is going to be unearthed and exposed
As it SHOULD be too.

I didn't like Gwynne, I found him ignorant and arrogant.
His didn't surprise me at all.
His comments not only about fellow MPs but to others too are despicable.

So definitely I support a full investigation into this.
Plus any other action taken as required.

On the information out at present on Oliver ( Ryan),I don't see much other than stupid banter there.
After all that was dug out by the media on MPs over the last 10 years particularly.
Across all Parties.
I'm just dismayed at the people in politics who are so stupid that they even could POSSIBLY think, what they say anywhere may now in this day and age, will not be made known.

Yes though, investigate and see if any more need more severe action.
Unless there's more on Oliver Ryan then he's been an absolute idiot but whether he should get heavily punished, I'm not for that UNLESS there's more or worse he's said.
Which I'm sure the Mail would have published now anyhow.

Vanessa 10-02-2025 10:11 AM

That's disgusting. Glad he was fired.
