Movies League:

Based off of the Video Game League and Albums League threads, but to do with Movies instead.

Here's the link to the other two threads for anyone that's interested on how it works.

Albums League https://www.thisisbigbrother.com/for...d.php?t=394926

Video Games League
https://www.thisisbigbrother.com/for...d.php?t=394730

And because Live Action and Animation Movies are made very differently to each other, I will be putting them in their own separate categories on this thread.

I also am considering separating Japanese and Western Animation from each other, due to (again) there being some big differences in the way both industries produce their Movies, and I am far more familiar with Western Animation as a preference, which wouldn't be fair to Japanese Anime Films imo.

Having said that, I haven't watched any Animation Films in awhile, so I can't do any "Leagues" for either of them just yet.

But here's my Live Action Movie League, where tbh there was only one Film on this list that I personally thought was awful.

In order of my personal preference.

Live Action Movie League:
1. Se7en
2. White Chicks
3. Final Destination 2
4. Final Destination
5. Goodfellas
6. Terrifier
7. Terrifier 2
8. Split
9. Inglourious Basterds
10. Bad Boys
11. American Psycho
12. Constantine
13. The Last Witch Hunter
14. Batman Begins
15. Doom
16. Don't Listen
17. Beverly Hills Cop II
18. Terrifier 3
19. Oblivion
20. The Autopsy Of Jane Doe
21. Unbreakable
22. Van Helsing
23. The Bourne Identity
24. Hellboy (2004 Movie)

I just really could not get into Hellboy, it just really felt like it was purely style over substance imo.

I've still not watched enough Western Animation Films recently to start adding them to this thread, but I have started the Japanese Anime Movies watch, even if it's a very tiny portion at the moment.

Plus I will update the Live Action rankings too.

Japanese Anime Movie League:

In order of preference:
1. Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade
2. Ghost In The Shell
3. Your Name
4. A Silent Voice
5. Perfect Blue
6. Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust
7. Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within
8. Howl's Moving Castle
9. Redline

I'll go more in-depth as to ranked the Movies in this order.

Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade - I absolutely love this Movie, it had so much happen in the Film but not feel rushed or underdeveloped either, and apparently it only covered one chapter of it's source material. And imo Fuse has definitely got to be the best written character possibly out of all of the Films that I've watched lately (yes including Live Action,) it's subtle but not too subtle if you get what I mean, but thankfully his development isn't whacked at you with a sledgehammer either.

Absolutely brilliant Film in my view.

Ghost In The Shell - Ghost In The Shell is always interesting imo, I do personally prefer SAC, but the Film is also a classic and nothing to sniff at.

Your Name - Again a very good Film, I am scared what the American remake might do to this story tbh, as the Americans aren't normally renowned for brilliant Romance writing.

A Silent Voice - It's much better than I personally expected tbh, because I honestly thought that it was just going to be "bullying is bad" and that would be it, which I do hate stories who's soul purpose is to state the obvious.

But thankfully A Silent Voice actually expands to trying to actually redeeming the bully, and trying to show that even the more unlikable characters in the Film aren't caricatures.

Don't get me wrong, I did have slight preferences for how I would've liked certain scenes to have played out, but nothing that's too detrimental to the Film imo.

Dezzy definitely has good taste when he was recommending this Film on here back in the day.

Perfect Blue - Perfect Blue is a really interesting Psychological Film, it does get off to a bit of a slow start imo, but again it is really strong overall at what it does.

Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust - It had potential, but I don't think that the story naturally suited being adapted into a Movie.

I imagine that the Light Novels are a much better way to experience Vampire Hunter D.

Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within - It's just a very average Film imo. There's nothing much else for me to really say.

Howl's Moving Castle - I really hated this Film, I just about got over the line in actually watching the whole thing, but it was just so boring imo.

Redline - I got to about 45 minutes into the Film, and I just didn't get why I was watching it tbh.

There didn't feel like there was a hook to keep me even hate-watching the Film, it was just an odd experience to even try and explain.

And that's why it's at the bottom of my Japanese Anime Movie League rankings currently.

Okay, I am going to update all three of the Movie Leagues, for anyone that is interested.

I know that I've only added one Movie in this category, and I promise to add a lot more the next time that I update this thread.

In order of preference for the Western Animation Movie League:

Western Animation Movie League:
1. Onward
2. Super Mario Bros. Movie
3. The Bad Guys

Again, I will need to add a significant amount the next time that I update this thread.

My more in-depth opinion of each Movie that I have watched recently.

Saw - I've always been a huge fan of the Saw franchise, but it's been a long time since I've watched the first Film in the franchise. But I wanted to see if the Film still held up, and imo it certainly did.

It has everything you could ask for, for a Film of this type.

- A strong psychological concept.

- Gore

- Mystery

- Plot twist

- And a strong motive (but admittedly an OTT one lol,) for the Jigsaw Killer.

- And a strong Soundtrack.

This is Saw at it's very best imo, and in my view is one of the greatest Movies ever made.

Final Destination 3 - Admittedly nostalgia could be influencing me here, as this was the first Final Destination that I had ever watched.

However I do like the characters in the sense that they have their own charm to them.

And I do honestly believe that my phobias got played on a lot in this installment, so from a personal perspective this was the most terrifying Final Destination Movie for me.

Jurassic Park - I really enjoyed Jurassic Park a lot more than I expected, in particular the story had a bit more depth to it than I was expecting.

Plus there were some tense scenes in the Film, which for a Film rated 12, that's really impressive imo.

It was a really fun Film I thought.

Us - Us is a really interesting Horror Film imo.

I did call the twist though.:joker:

I don't want to potentially give spoilers away though, but Horror fans who haven't already watched it should check it out.

Devil - I quite enjoyed Devil personally, especially the twist with the one character in the Film.

Let's just say it's going to be a night that the lead Detective won't forget in a hurry.:joker:

Night At The Museum - It weren't a perfect Film imo, but it was a fun Movie at what it was going for.

And I really liked Robin Williams in the Film.

Django Unchained - The topic might be bled to death nowadays in American stuff, but tbf to Django Unchained it is actually a fun Film.

And it was my first Western that I've ever watched in the Movie format.

The Fall Guy - I think that the Fall Guy is a decent Film, but nothing amazing if I'm being entirely honest.

But I did find it fun to watch.

Winnie-The-Pooh: Blood & Honey - It's on a technical level a horrible Movie on nearly every level, but for some reason I did get enjoyment out of watching it.:bawling:

That's why I couldn't place it in the bottom five or six.

Everything Everywhere All At Once - I know that Niamh really struggled with the Film when I've chatted to her about it on here.

And while I agree that the Film has some ropey elements, I do also believe that there is creativity and some decent writing in the Film.

It's why I'm more mixed on the Film tbh.

And just to add, it's sex jokes can be odd imo, but thankfully in a way that I personally could still find reasonably funny.

Cleaner - I like the Actress who plays the lead of the Film, but **** me the script was terrible.:joker:

I get that it weren't having the biggest budget tbf, but the writing was very questionable, especially with how cringe the dialogue could be around the villains.:umm2:

The Beekeeper - Amazingly it was worse than Cleaner, and I watched it a day or two after watching Cleaner.

Oh boy! Where do I begin?

- Dire acting from nearly the whole cast.

- Terrible dialogue.

- And terrible motivation for the hero to brutally murder people.

Overall this Film sucked really bad, the only reason it's not lower is because I did find it entertaining enough to finish at least, so it did something right in that sense.

It Feeds - It's just a generic Supernatural Horror tale tbh.

There's not really much else to add.

Broken (2006 Movie) - I had a terrible Internet connection when I tried to watch this tbf, but it just felt like it was taking the Saw formula too far imo.

Grave Of The Fireflies - It's been one of my favourite new experiences in the Movie world tbh (hence why it's above Ghost In The Shell on my own personal rankings,) it's such a well told story imo.

Full warning to anyone though, it's a very bleak story.

Because I don't want anyone thinking that they're getting a Disney tale.

Onward - You know Kids Films have got really bad when Onward is my personal favourite out of the bunch.

Don't get me wrong I do like aspects of Onward, but it does also have a lot of problems, mainly the overwrought drama in a Kids Movie.

But it does have it's good points tbf, in some ways it did come close to getting the old Pixar magic going again, so it was a step in the right direction in my view.

Super Mario Bros. Movie - The Italians have become Americans, and Peach and Toad don't behave like Peach and Toad.

Bowser thankfully was done really well tbf.

The Bad Guys - The villain was alright tbf, but I didn't really like anyone else in the Film.

And I hated the writing for the love interest of the Film, but I won't go into a tirade over that as I'm too tired from the heat.:joker:
