injuring several people.
The driver was arrested and the
area later secured, said German police.

Authorities didn't immediately give
a specific number of injuries
or provide details about the incident,

the driver was “secured” at the scene
and no longer poses any danger.

Regional public broadcaster
Bayerischer Rundfunk (BR) reported
that the people who were hurt
were apparently participating in a strike.

[On social media, one witness, a German journalist,
reported the incident occurred at a
rally organised by German trade union Verdi,
when a Mini Cooper ploughed into the demonstration.

'A person was lying on the street and
a young man was taken away by the police,
' Sandra Demmelhuber said.

'People were sitting on the ground, crying and shaking.
Details still unclear,' the reporter added.

Ambulances are currently on site as they attempt
to aid victims who were hit and shots were allegedly
fired before the car smash.

Following the incident, the driver was secured
on site by cops and 'currently poses no further danger,
' Munich Police have said on X/Twitter.]

Suspect ‘posted Islamist content’ to internet

Some more unconfirmed details on the attacker are being published in the
German press.

According to news magazine Der Spiegel, he arrived in Germany in 2016. His
application for asylum had been rejected, but he had been allowed to stay in
the country due to the security situation in Afghanistan.

He also posted Islamist content on a social media site before carrying out the
alleged crime.

…horrific evil attack …I know some injured were children but I can’t see reports on the extent/seriousness of the injuries…I hope that all are able to recover in their bodies and that there are no life changing injuries…mentally though, will be another thing…

He was known to police and did arrive in Germany illegally as a minor. He had bids to stay denied and was on a toleration permit (a temporary suspension of deportation for individuals whose asylum applications have been denied.)
