Do you know the phonetic alphabet?

I was in one of those situations which you probably get a couple of times a year where you need to relay things like postcode/reg plate/reference numbers over the phone where it's often a bad line because call centres are all outsourced. The minute there was some confusion over a couple of letters I was trying to recall the phonetic alphabet and was drawing a complete blank and couldn't even think of normal words for the relevant letters. Does this happen to you or do you know it by heart? I always actually think I do know it until I suddenly need it

Well I should do…having worked for an Airline most of my life…

I've always been a bit flighty on some of it.

When I can't think of one, I substitute with one of my own, e.g., H for holocaust and whatnot.

Yes, I have to use it for work.

…I do know it, yes…as with others, it’s something I’ve used many times during working hours but it’s also good as you say, on the phone when giving your postcode or car number plate…

I know it except when I'm under pressure and actually need it, like you in those cases I don't seem to be able to remember any words at all for the letter I need
