South African Psychologist

The Psychologist of BBA, Jaques Schutte had a look at the Housemates' personalities recently. He gave his take on what their reactions would be to the newest Housemate, Scotsman Cameron from the Big Brother House in the United Kingdom.

'The Housemates are very different from each other,' says Jaques. 'The recent conflicts in the House have a lot to do with the fact that they are all strong characters. That is why they were chosen. We need people with strong self-images and who like to project their personalities in the House. But this is the same reason why there are so many outbursts. Alex, for example, has two sides to him. He's admitted that he's hard on the outside and soft on the inside. He's a real contradiction in terms. Have you ever seen someone like him who looks like Vin Diesel, but carries a Teddy Bear?'

These contradictions are huge for Alex to try and balance. According to the psychologist, this dichotomy is a result of the sensitive Alex trying to protect himself from being hurt. Is this the way he will behave with the new Housemate? When Cameron arrived, Alex stood quietly, leaning against the wall, watching Cameron suspiciously. After a few moments in which he had talked only about the negative aspects of the House, he took himself off to the Boys' Bedroom and crawled back into his bed. He lay there cuddling his teddy until Stefan came to see what was wrong with him.

'This is typical behaviour from Alex,' says Jaques. 'Whenever he is a little out of his depth, he withdraws and waits for someone like Abby or Stefan to come and find him. Perhaps he is a little insecure about his standing in the House now that there is a new competitor on the cards.' Is Alex worried at all that Stefan might form a bond with the only other white person in the House? Stefan seems to have been very friendly and welcoming to Cameron, but soon went off with Alex again. Perhaps Alex has nothing to be afraid off?

The rest of the Housemates have been very welcoming to Cameron. 'I've been completely delighted by my reception,' said the Scotsman to Big Brother in a Diary Session. Warona, Abby and Cherise warmed to him immediately. Tapuwa on the other hand, took a bit of a back seat. She sat quietly and watched from the couch as Cameron said his hellos. Was this because she had to readjust her game plan with this new addition? 'Tapuwa is the one Housemate playing the game the hardest,' says Jaques. 'She has one of the highest Emotional Intelligences in the House, and has been more aware of strategy than anyone else. She has also got a very strong sense of self so she doesn't take the attacks from the other Housemates to heart. She is able to hold her own. So she would have to take some time to think about her new strategy with the addition of the new Housemate.'

These psychologists do go on a bit dont they. Every little thing is picked on and analysed.

Talk about giving people complexes. Glad to see Cameron is being welcomed. Wonder if they can understand what he is saying. Och No.:nono::nono:
