Why am I not surprised.

Cherie 30-03-2025 09:37 AM

MPs don't appear to be able to pay for anything personally, the gravy train just keeps chugging along, there needs to be changes to what they can and cannot claim and quick

Sack her, immediately.

What is really annoying is that this falls under the rules so it seems was permitted.

Normally it wouldn't be that big an issue in relation to other expenses issues.
However with the policies at present being implemented on others this surely could have been arranged another way and not being a claiming expenses issue.

I have to add, I'm glad her pet is not going to be separated from her because they do look for their owners and don't understand why they are away from them.
I know my own Staffie misses me bigtime when I have to be away even for just a couple of days.
They are really like family.

However the wording there I stated is, it is HER PET, so find somewhere she could have it with her and not need any other source to cover any extra cost of having her pet with her.

We have to accept that for every new rule introduced to curb MP's expenses, there will be 5 new ways mp's find to gain the system. They are not there to represent the people, they are there for their own personal gain

Hate the game, not the player.

Yeah, I dont mind that she can claim for her dog, as it stands she is allowed to do that, but she shouldn't be able to, that would be the ideal, that what you can and cannot claim for is tightened ....and tightened in the extreme, we just seem to attact people who are in politics for personal gain now, all career politicians who have no interest in duty or service to the public but who know they can jump on a gravy train for 5 years plus feathering their nests, and its top down...free clothes, free holidays, free glasses, then expenses, its hard to see why MPs would not take advantage when they see their leaders doing it

Beso 31-03-2025 11:20 AM

Pure selfishness.

Moving the poor dog to strange surroundings only to go out and leave it when she goes to work.

They do work don't they, these Mps?

Livia 31-03-2025 11:32 AM

Not sure how she can justify this morally, but Labour doesn't really have morals anymore.

bots 31-03-2025 11:50 AM

this is the thing that seems to be forgotten all the time with mp's. Moral behaviour comes before any rule, all a rule should do is enforce moral behaviour, but it's not a substitute

I said Labour, but you're right, it's all MPs.

I was working with an MP when the last big expenses scandal broke and thankfully, he had actually repaid money to which he was not entitled and published the details. However, the rules that were put in place following the scandal impacted the office staff far more than they affected him. Coffee and tea in the office was the one perk they had, but following the new rules, they had to buy their own. They also had to supply refreshments if any guest to the office was to be offered a cup because refreshments for guests to the office could not be reclaimed on expenses and the MP was not willing to buy it. Because basically, he was a bit of a dick.
