Water Bills

So how much did yours go up by? ours went up by 19%

This was all done very quietly, dont recall getting any notification, it just went up, usually when your DD changes you get a notification...nada, just a note on my account to say the DD is changing from May... I have heard that some people think under Thames went up 54% and these rises are governed by Ofwat, they must be having a laugh surely

AnnieK 08-04-2025 04:49 PM

Mine was up by about 20%. I thought it was an error so rang....bloody ludicrous

Yes
the Labour Party
can not afford to take over near bankrupt Thames Water

So these increases
have Labour's Permission.

Mine is pretty good at the moment. But I've applied for a discount. Not sure I'll get it, but worth a try.

We do, it's built into council tax payment, and most did go up this year (by 8% - 10%).

Honestly in this case it's not that different to most parts of England, it's a flat fee collected through council tax same as the flat fee paid in England, at least anywhere I've stayed in England... Not sure if anywhere still has actual water meters? But yeah it's clearly separated out on the bill, there's a council tax amount + a water & sewage amount. When we moved up from Lancs the total of that bill was more or less the same as council tax + separate water down there. Swings and roundabouts.

One thing that does make it slightly different though is that in Scotland if you're council tax exempt (e.g. full benefits or students) you don't pay for the water part either, whereas in England you still had the separate water bill to pay.

My council tax is horrendous these days though, £270ish/month 💀
