James what have you done with the Brexit thread?

joeysteele 16-05-2025 10:25 PM

He and the government should be looking to get much closer to the EU.
I think it would do him the world of good.

It certainly couldn't I'd guess make things worse.

It's ridiculous that after leaving the EU, that all this time on, we still haven't achieved an anywhere right deal.
So I hope he has repaired or is repairing that wrong damage done by Brexit.

Yeah, he 1should defy the will of the people and become an outright dictator.

Big up' the elites that are better than us little people.

I'm fully aware we voted to leave.
Plus it was a legitimate vote to leave.

However HOW to leave was much more open.

Plus one of the main elements of real democracy is that people CAN change their minds and things can then be altered or changed completely.

There shouldn't need to be a referendum to now he part of the single market again.

That question was not asked in the referendum.
However I have a feeling, a good number of those who voted leave nearly 9 years ago
They'd be very worried about another referendum on the EU.

there are many ways we can improve trade and cooperation with europe without rejoining the EU. This all needed time for the people that were involved in brexit to move on (from both sides) so that there can be sensible dialog. We also have a very changed world compared to the time of the brexit vote. The UK need the other countries in europe for our own security and reliable trade. It's much easier to disrupt trade with India and Australia than it is to disrupt trade across the channel

The governments red lines are no return to the single market, customs union or freedom of movement so there won't be any change there. The main thing on trade is expected to be an agreement to ease the movement of food and plant products which will be important to a lot of people but won't make much difference to the country as a whole. It will also likely mean aligning with the EU's regulations which won't be very popular with everyone

Part of the blame for that has to go to the EU. Don't you remember their appalling behaviour toward Theresa May? They were like a bunch of schoolboys. I was no fan of May but I felt for her during that last trip to Brussels, where no one would talk to her, no one would look at her, even.

Kier Starmer was always going to do this. The fishermen are hopping mad, watching their livelihoods being handed over to foreign fishermen. This is just dragging us back into the EU by stealth. This is the first step. People will not forget this and they will not forget Kier.

This shows that a democratic vote means nothing - nothing - to Labour.

It seems like quite a large price to pay for having our rights once again handed over, against the will of the people, to a foreign parliament.

If it meant we could return illegals to French beaches, I might be a bit more down with it.
