Call myself an animal lover, yet go to the races?

Dogs mostly, here and there, with my Granddad and cousins. Done with that after tonight in Hove. I will never unsee what i saw, poor dog was horrifically injured. Im so done with this sh!t.

I was growing against it big time the older i get anyway tbh, how can i call others hypocrites for other things, when i say im a dog lover yet watched dogs enslaved forced and bred to race, and then bet on them for "fun"?!. Nah, tonight was the real eye opener.

I won't go into detail, but that poor little dog, it will stay with me forever. Im done. Disgusting sport.

They say as you get older you get more right wing, i dunno, im not more left leaning as i get older, and not more right either. I know my own mind, i will never take sides, and i couldn't give a fck what people might say. I'll just be me and feel how i feel. But animal bloodsport is a predominantly right wing past time, and yeah, bollocks to it.

Tonight opened my eyes to the barbarity of dog racing, and using animals in sport as general.

Maybe i've become soft, not the working class red neck i used to be (will always be red neck, in my blood). But yeah, nah, im done with that.

It happened at Hove tonight, might be a video out there, but if you watch and are an animal/dog lover, it will stay with you forever. Horrific.

I don't want to see any videos of it.

What you've described sounds tragic enough tbh.

I hope that you're feeling alright Swan?

Yo Mock mate. Yeah, i can't even go into details, just too much. Probably wont be a video out there tbh, luckily, no one should see that.

It was just utterly heartbreaking to see, that poor dog. But yeah, my perception of dog and horse racing has changed so much in recent years. I hate it all now.

I've never really liked them that much tbh.

I'm less vocal on it than I used to be, but it's moments like what you're talking about that stops me from ever being able to like this type of Sport.

…I’m sorry that you witnessed something so upsetting……and obviously horrendous for that dog in particular and the dogs used in that sport in general…it’s always been reported as being particularly controversial for its cruelty to the animals and many deaths and injuries over time…when we think of it, it’s quite barbaric and basic to be thought of and enjoyed as a ‘sport’….but sadly sometimes an horrendous event is witnessed for that realisation…and I’m sorry that’s been how it is for you…I know how much you love animals and dogs in particular are an animal you hold with much affection……

….I've never really thought in terms of ‘right or left leaning’…Lord, politics is an arse…

Ammi 23-05-2025 05:45 AM

…and you can call yourself an animal lover, you absolutely can…you went to the dog racing and find some pleasure/enjoyment because you hadn’t seen both sides now…now you have, it’s a brutal way but I guess it’s reflective of a perspective that many haven’t yet seen…brutal…

You clearly are an animal lover by your reaction to what you've just witnessed.
If you weren't an animal lover it would've bothered you.
I'm just saddened you did see it.

I get called a killjoy because I don't like any sports involving animals.
That's fine though I can take that criticism.
I don't really like Horse racing, plus I've never been to dog racing.
I've only witnessed the even more barbaric and heartless foxhunting.
Just observing it even from a distance when I lived in the Countryside as a child, actually made me physically sick at what I saw, plus the hateful laughing and celebrations of the vile cretins who were the supporters and riders following the hounds after the fox.
Absolutely horrific.

Anyhow I'm sad you have had that awful experience.
I think people who use animals for sport and risk great trauma for them are the lowest of the low, well to me they are.
I'll just thank you for your sharing that and helping highlight the cruelty side of animals used in sport.
Because most neither see it or even think it happens.
However it does as you've just explained what you've witnessed.

Yeah, not much room for forgiveness for a dog that trips up on these tracks. I've beeen once to romford dogs.. didnt see the enjoyment in it at all.

Can I suggest you use your hurt and disgust in a positive way by going out to protest against such events..
