Do you enjoy when people sing ‘happy birthday’ to you?

We were at a restaurant earlier and my other half told them not to sing to me for my birthday as I hate it (which I do haha).

But do you mind if people sing it to you in public??

They did that at work. I was actually really touched :bawling:

Ithinkiloveyoutoo 05-06-2025 08:34 PM

Why do you hate it?

Oliver_W 05-06-2025 08:53 PM

I revel in it, conduct them, and demand encores.

I find it so cringey being given such public attention.

I don’t mind family singing it but if I was in a restaurant maybe I would be embarrassed by it

Zizu 05-06-2025 09:14 PM

Did this to my friend last year on her birthday in Spain, its lovely when the whole restaurant joins in, whats not to love, that said I would hate it :hee:

I don't really like to have that much attention in public tbh.

I would appreciate the gesture though.

What about if it wasn’t in public but at home?

Yes the public attention part is utter cringe. When it's people I know and care for quite a bit, then it's actually very nice (but still cheesy).

We’ve got a little birthday-bash coming up for my nephew (who’ll be 1) in August. I wonder if he’ll appreciate happy birthday being sung to him wrapped up in the comfort of his house.

He'll probably love it like Kate said.

Children I think likes the spotlight on average more than an adult.

I mean that in the nicest possible way.
