Do you ever order tap-water at the pub?

Or would you be hesitant about doing it so-as not to feel like you’re wasting the bartender’s time pouring something they won’t profit from (or some other reason for your no)?

I do it when I’m skint (I’ll admit) and still want to be in the pub-atmosphere without paying for what I can’t afford, but more commonly (and importantly) it’s to keep me hydrated enough and replenish electrolytes I lose from excessive sweating. The only medical thing that controls my hyperhidrosis (over-sweating) at this point is a medication called topiramate (which can also make people lose lot of weight, but on-label it’s more for migraines and seizures, especially in t’UK) and I only have occasional access to it at the moment. So it’s partly financial (that time of the month, skimping around before payday) and partly so-that my state of health in the hydration-and-electrolytes department will be alright.

Yeah, usually I just ask whoever is buying a round to get me a water while they're ordering, it's no big deal

Well, yh, it shouldn’t feel like it but when you’re not in a group (so there’s no question of getting a round in, unless a familiar local offers to buy you a drink anyway) and you’re not actually buying a drink, of any kind (not even a cordial), it can just feel a little cheeky making the bar-staff get you a water, when they could be making profit from someone-else. Moreover, some pubs (old-men pubs) can be so dingy and grubby that you can’t necessarily even trust that the tap-water will be clean or comfortable for you to drink.

Not in the shitholes...nice bars? I might, just to annoy who's buying the round.

I wouldn't really go to a pub in my own tbh, the only reason I'd be there drinking water is if I was driving or if I was just having lunch or something

Any way you can edit the exclamation-mark (typo) in my title to a question-mark, by the way, please?

I’m always more worried about annoying the staff. No-one’s said anything but what’s said publicly isn’t always what’s said or thought privately.

This is why I have you on my ignore-list.

I wonder when vodka-soda became tap-water.

Obviously, I'm not on your ignore list. Because you replied to my post.

But you're now going on mine, for saying that I'm on yours and lying about it.

You can selectively choose to view messages from people on your ignore-list and reply. I do that with Zizu more times than it seems to be worth. No word of a lie was told.

Alf 11-06-2025 09:02 PM

I can't see what he replied. I was too quick for him.

Yep. I mean I get normal drinks to but if it's hot in there and if there's dancing eg club or party I get tap water between each drink, it helps me to stay hydrated and stops me downing the alcohol

Lemon-water (and CBD, for what it’s worth) can also help calibrate your system and reduce symptoms of hangover. So maybe one time ask for a glass of iced water with lemon inside. The lemon will only go in someone-else’s gin otherwise.

I usually get a Fanta and tap water in case I finish my Fanta

Redway 15-06-2025 07:10 PM

How many of us are drinking Bud Light at the pub on any given day anyway? As far as a lot of people are concerned, it might-as-well be water.

Nah I won't even drink tap at home. Sparkling bottled all the way. Tap is vile.

Scottish water is good, I think it’s more clean than English water. We are told when we go to London to get bottled water

Irish tap water is really good too [emoji108]

Vanessa 15-06-2025 10:20 PM

Wetherspoon has a water dispenser, so I drink from that.
But usually I prefer sparkling water.

Zizu 16-06-2025 12:21 AM

We order tap water everywhere we go ( North West England though)

Mystic Mock 16-06-2025 05:27 AM

Nope.

I like Coca-Cola or Cider at the Pub.
