PM Starmer: 2nd U -Turn : National Inquiry into grooming gangs
[The prime minister has announced
there will be a full national statutory inquiry into grooming gangs. Sir Keir Starmer said he had accepted the recommendations of an audit by Baroness Louise Casey into the data and evidence on the nature and scale of group-based child sexual abuse. Baroness Casey has recommended a national inquiry is required, he said. The inquiry will cover England and Wales. For months, Sir Keir has faced criticism for not being willing to set one up. At the start of the year, the government dismissed calls for a national inquiry, arguing it had already been examined in a seven-year inquiry led by Professor Alexis Jay. But speaking to reporters on his way to the G7 summit, which begins in Canada tomorrow, the prime minister said: "I've never said we should not look again at any issue."] https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c7872pngj2qo |
Good news, well done PM

Great news to hear.

The U turns are coming thick and fast.
I'll be interested to know who will lead the enquiry. I would also like an assurance that those jailed for these evil, racist crimes will be deported. |

I wonder which ethnic/Religious groups are more likely to be apart of child grooming gangs in the UK?
My guess would be either white people or Middle Eastern Muslims, as they appear to be the two groups that I hear about more when it comes to this horrific act. But I would like to know what an official study has said, if there has been any official studies around this topic that is. |
This is the right move and done on the recommendation of the Casey findings.
I've no problem at all with U turns, not that this is one, if they are to correct wrongs. This maybe should have been done years ago However really good he's acted quickly from the findings of the Casey inquiry. |
Should be dressed as a clown

So, as an inquiry will now go ahead can I take it that when Starmer said those calling for an inquiry are all "far right", he was wrong? And the Labour MP Lucy Powell, who dismissed the grooming gangs with a laugh saying it was a "dog-whistle issue", I take it she was wrong too. It seems to me that Labour only opens its mouth these days to change feet.

I could not believe that the BBC are giving airtime to racist accusations against ethnic minorities.
That baroness needs to be sent on a racism awareness course. |
