When I was about 5 I used to think baked beans were just mashed potato wrapped in really thin pasta. Like, each little bean was its own tiny ravioli filled with mash.

If a mod could just clean that mess up it would be great.

I didn’t eat cauliflower for years after my older brothers convinced me it was sheep brain.

Because of how the logo was often written I thought Disney and 'Disnep' were two different film companies.

I had never noticed the odd ‘y’ at the end ..


That said I hadn’t noticed the lower case ‘i’ followed by a capital ‘N’ then a capital ‘E’ .. then a lower case ‘y’ ..

If the ice-cream van played music it meant they were sold out of ice cream..

The stuff about swallowing chewing-gum being dangerous, I guess. Nothing too crazy.

There is a big power station near where I grew up and near where my Dad kept his boat. He told me it was a giants house where they come out at night and roam around. I fully believed it and was absolutely terrified when I stayed a night on his boat as a kid and thought the giants would come out and grab me

This still goes through my head if I swallow gum

one of the best things i did at work was take a photocopy of a document with the shredder

As a kid that is.

I can’t think but I know there are a few I believed. My friend said they saw Santa travelling in the sky on the way back from Florida (think they were in the air around midnight coming near Scotland) so I always believed that story when I was little

At about 7, I used to think a fox would come up the toilet and bite your ass when you are sitting having a small kiddie pooop.

…that we could sit in clouds, that they were like cushions in the sky…that if I ate bread crusts, my hair would definitely curl …that if I swallowed an apple/orange seed etc, a tree would grow inside me…that the people on the TV, lived inside it and that animated characters really existed as people…that trolls lived under bridges…that our shadows could run off if we didn’t say hey to them whenever we saw them…

I used to think that if we were on a boat even a huge cruise liner that if it started to sink we could simply swim to safety


Funny thing was I was never much of a swimmer

That’s giving real idyllic idealism. Alas, it’s not possible but I actually kinda wish it was.

This might sound daft but when I was kid I would listen to certain songs and then listen to them as an adult and be gobsmacked what the lyrics actually were.

For example, When I was younger I always believed the lyrics to “Missing” by Everything But The Girl was “And I miss you… like the deserts mystery and realising years later that it was actually And I miss you… like the deserts miss the rain.

And that song by Cornershop - Brimful Of Asha. I could never work out what the lyrics were when I was a kid and then as I got older I understood what he was actually saying :laugh:
