Nadiya Hussain: I no longer fit BBC’s ‘very neat box’

Nadiya Hussain, a Great British Bake Off winner, has spoken out after the BBC cancelled her cooking shows, including Nadiya's British Food Adventure and Nadiya's Everyday Baking.
Hussain suggested the BBC dropped her because she no longer fit their “very neat box”.
She said she was not given a definitive reason for the axing, despite her shows consistently drawing strong audience figures.
A BBC spokesperson confirmed the “difficult decision not to commission another cookery show” with Hussain but maintained she remains “a much-valued part of the BBC family”.
Hussain said she is now focused on being her “most authentic self” and finding a space in the industry where her voice is valued.

As the BBC decides not to commission another series from her, Nadiya Hussain
says: ‘It’s really difficult as a Muslim woman, I work in an industry that doesn’t
always support people like me.’

There's no real need for her to bring her religion into it, everyone loves Nadiya tbh.

Aww I didn’t know she was cancelled. Huge loss for the BBC.

Is she for real ?

She ticks loads of obvious boxes .. even more if she’s lesbian or bi

Well she does … famous , outspoken, female , not white , muslim, popular…

Hardly ‘hard done by’ as she claims

I watched a game the other night in the world club competition

The host and three pundits were all black … they were great pundits and 100 times better than someone like Karen Carney but its no good people like Nadiya Hussain claiming they have it harder than the rest … when the opposite appears to be true ..

Its the same with people claiming their sexuality is a barrier yet watch any Big Brother or Love Island spin off and about 70% of the guests panelists will be gay / lesbian or trans .

Oh and for what it’s worth… I really like her and was chuffed to bits when she won the Bake Off years ago ….

here in my nation Netherlands, you either get cancelled for it, or you won't get cancelled if you got the right connections

i mean Johnny de Mol got charged with domestic abuse, but he's allowed to still host a late night talk show, cuz of his tycoon daddy John de Mol

band leader of the voice of holland Jeroen Rietbergen got accused of sexual abuse, but since he is the husband of Linda de Mol (John's sister) and her being a tv icon, he is innocent

her main failing was she isn't a male drag queen

and that was ultimately her downfall

some people are just not prepared to go that extra mile..

The BBC or Ch5 (whoever aired the Club World Cup) were just following what every other corporation is doing at the moment which is DEI hiring.

Tbf, there are certain jobs (Police Force for example,) where DEI hiring actually has merit to it imo.

But for entertainment products? Just cast the best for the job, even if they come from Germany, France, Scotland, or Liverpool.

But black people would get hired for some of these jobs still if they were to hire based on merit, I've always thought that it's racist personally when some people try to argue that "black people wouldn't get hired very often if it were based on merit."

And I know that people don't say it exactly like I've quoted, but it's basically what those types of people mean when they make that argument, and in my view it is shockingly racist.

The pundits were great as it happens and far better ( and far more qualified than any of the gobby women pundits who talk like world beaters … they played over ten years ago when women’s football was even worse thanit is today and they won NOWT even then)

One of the most used female pundits played 130 ‘professional’ games over a 14 years period - thats less than 10 games a season and at a pizz poor level…

I don’t even see colours in a person or player or boxer or whatever but when I see a ‘person of colour’ ( can I say that these days ?) claiming its harder to get jobs in telly or the media because of their colour It drives me mad

Person of colour is fine, I'm not going to police you over saying that term anyway.

Tbh I'm not really that bothered about women being Pundits or becoming Presenters for Sports Shows, they're half of the world's population and a lot of them are going to be into Football, so why not let them have their voice be heard if they have interesting things to say?

Controversially, I do think that Sky Sports sometimes hire people from different ethnic backgrounds without necessarily making sure if the person is even interesting to watch.

Obviously there are great ones too, before anyone says anything.

The only decent woman pundit that I have seen is Sue Smith on Sky Sports Saturdays

She’s extremely personable and knows what she is talking about !!

I like Sue Smith too.

Her Everton support kind of reminds me of Jeff with Hartlepool.:joker:

The BBC producers of today are the biggest racists since Birth of a Nation.
