How much sleep do you need realistically?

A full 8 hours?

Or can you get by on short naps.

I'm the latter, a bit cat like lol. It's rare I sleep more than 3 to 4 hours at a time, it's been years on end since I slept properly, occasionally I manage 6 or more but it's unusual.

You?

Vicky. 16-07-2025 09:43 AM

I have about 12 a night, my meds make me exhausted

Mystic Mock 16-07-2025 09:45 AM

I range all over the place tbh.

On average it's between 5-7 hours.

Cherie 16-07-2025 09:52 AM

I need 8 hours plus, in fact the more sleep the better

Yeah same, 9 is my optimal, now I never really sleep all the way through, I usually get up to go to the toilet or whatever but I fall straight back to sleep afterwards

Crimson Dynamo 16-07-2025 10:04 AM

7 -8 hours as normal

same I practically sleep walk to the bathroom

Strictly Jake 16-07-2025 10:21 AM

I'd say 6 hours is about right for me

Crimson Dynamo 16-07-2025 10:25 AM

I think most people sleep a few hours, wake briefly, turn over and go back to sleep, its rare to do hours straight

Vicky. 16-07-2025 10:38 AM

Yea I wake up at least twice for the loo :bored:

Yeah definitely

thesheriff443 16-07-2025 10:48 AM

I have had poor sleep for many years

I have slept in 2 hour chunks since I was a baby ( had to be fed every two hours through the night..they said I probably had a small stomach but I think I was just lactose intolerant)

Anyways it beggared up my sleep pattern forever

I reckon I get between 4 and 6 hours each night

The best thing for sleep is regularity of time. Go to bed at the same time, wake up at the same time, avoid "naps" and don't drink any caffeine after 5pm.

I could(and have done) nap and drink coffee at 10pm and still sleep away fine

caprimint 16-07-2025 11:46 AM

About 6 hours is alright for me

My mom is the same way, she drinks coffee right before bed :skull:

AnnieK 16-07-2025 11:54 AM

I get between 5-6 hours a night. Having my son messed me up. He was always up at 5am no matter what time I put him down which was fine when he was tiny as he went to bed at like 6pm- 7pm and I would go up around 9ish but now he sleeps like a teenager and I ping awake at 5 - 5.30am every day and cannot get back to sleep and I don't want to go to bed at 9pm so get around 5-6 hours. Its fine though as I'm not overly tired but would love a lie in once in a while.

I thought you’d be one of those “sleep is for the weak” types.

BBXX 16-07-2025 12:24 PM

I am a morning person, so I usually go to bed around 9:30-10 and am up at about 5am playing Scrandle and drinking coffee.

you need 4 hours of whats defined as core sleep for your body to recover, so probably 6 hours is a comfortable minimum

I think by far most experts advise 7-9 hours is the best option if possible

Adults who sleep less than 7 hours a night may have more health issues than those who sleep 7 or more hours a night. Sleeping more than 9 hours a night is not necessarily harmful and may be helpful for young adults, people who are recovering from sleep deprivation, and people who are sick.

there is no one rule fits all. As you get older, you generally sleep less. If you are not getting enough sleep, you will know about it and compensate

I'd be like a zombie if I only got 6 hours sleep
