Some cops do carry rifles/ARs (usually in vehicle) or other semi-auto rifles, but if they didn't have any warning it doesn't matter... it would depend on the unit/unit type.

It's not an M4 but that's how it's being reported. It's an AR styled to be an M4. ARs are known for being highly customizable. It's also why they're difficult to ban with legalese because ARs are usually built not bought, so they're not technically (technologically) different than any other semi-auto, which are most weapons. On the rifle it says "Palmetto State Armory"... it has another nickname, "Poverty State Armory"... Supposedly that is the normal size mag (30 rounds). The news doesn't know **** about guns or weapons, which adds to the confusion. When I saw they were saying it was a "high powered rifle" (hilariously non-specific), I knew right away it was going to be a misreport.

Gunman Shane Tamura used Palmetto State Armory AR-15 in massacre at Midtown skyscraper

The gun retails for about $420 and appears to have a magazine with a 30-round capacity.
Yeah, definitely an M4.

Edit: M4s are fully auto. You can't find that in a shop. Fully autos have been banned forever.

He is a homegrown terrorist
but of course they will not say that
as they found meds he was on.

But he held a Job down
in Las Vegas

So not so crazy.

Ninastar 29-07-2025 03:42 PM

How do you get mad at the NFL and do something like this? There’s more to it imo

Awful. That poor cop and his family

Read my post again, he had a cheap AR dressed up as an M4. It is a semi-auto. M4s are not freely available in America.

He had a Concealed Carry permit, which are for concealable weapons, ie handguns not rifles. It doesn't have anything to do with his carrying around a rifle openly. (Edit: And there's restrictions for where you can carry)

He was due another child in a few days, which couldn't have been good timing for his wife.

If she's due, it's not as bad. At least she isn't a first time mom. Birth is a whole ordeal in itself and to go through that alone... just horrible. I had mommy complications and my husband single-handedly was all that kept me out of the loony bin when I had to stay in hospital.

Her husband would've been putting in paperwork to take off a lot of time so he wouldn't have been on duty at all. They're really generous with maternity leave in law enforcement. Looks like 12 weeks for NYPD. Ours is the same, I think...

NYC shooter had ASSOCIATE who'll now be questioned by NYPD over massacre that claimed four victims: Live updates
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...y-parents.html

Quote:

New York City police are looking to question an associate who sold Midtown Manhattan shooter Shane Tamura guns parts that he used to kill four people Monday.

NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch revealed that investigators are heading to Tamura's native Las Vegas to conduct interviews and execute a search warrant at his home.

'The weapon used, an AR-15-style assault rifle, was assembled by Mr. Tamura using a lower receiver purchased by an associate. We have located that associate and others. And will be questioning him about that purchase,' Tisch said in a video update on Tuesday.
Quote:

The lower receiver is the part of an AR-15 that is regulated by federal code and requires a background check in Nevada, according to CNN.
Figures. New York has banned what they've classified as assault weapons, but the only way that the bans can be done, they simply restrict the sale of guns with certain specific (and somewhat random) characteristics... because there's not really such thing a thing as an "assault rifle" per say because it's not a technical definition, so to completely ban the manufacture and sale of them would involve banning semi-auto, which would ban many weapons across the US...

Quote:

Tamura was found with a letter on his body indicating he had grievances with the NFL and its handling of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a degenerative brain disease linked to several retired football players.
Quote:

In that note, Mr. Tamora claimed to be suffering from CTE, possibly from playing high school football, and he blamed the NFL. He also writes, "Study my brain. I'm sorry,"' Tisch said.
For people not familiar with CTE, it's said to be what is said to have caused WWE wrestler Chris Benoit to kill his family... there's a lot of controversy around that in high contact sports:

What We Learned About Chris Benoit's Brain After His Death

Quote:

In September 2007, Julian Bailes, the chairman of neurosurgery at West Virginia University and a founding member of the Sports Legacy Institute, announced the findings of his organization, stating that Chris Benoit's brain had undergone many changes from concussions. "These extreme changes throughout Chris Benoit's brain are enough to explain aberrant behavior, including suicide and even homicide," Bailes said (via ESPN).

However, Bailes added that he felt their findings were not evidence that brain damage was the reason for the murder-suicide. "I think even if you had a great psychiatric input on this case that you couldn't come up with why human behavior can become so severe," Bailes said (via ABC News).

The Sports Legacy Institute's post-mortem diagnosis was that Chris Benoit was suffering from a form of brain damage named Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE). Dr. Robert Cantu compared the condition of Benoit's brain to a man aged 80 or older with "very severe" Alzheimer's disease, adding, "His was the most extensively damaged of the brains we have examined so far." According to ESPN, Benoit's brain was "liquefied" by the time police officers found his body, which was only one day after he died.

Of course sports organizations are not going to want to make it sound like CTE directly causes people to murder, because then that would greatly effect the sport.

I'm not saying I support that conclusion or not, but this explains the reason for what sounds like a suicide mission.

…just awful and shattering for the families of the victims…as well as the police officer….Wesley LePatner a Blackstone employee, wife and mom of two…Aland Etienne, a brother and a father and a son…Julia Hyman, a sister and daughter…all lives brutally taken from them …
