Government considering introducing ID cards

to stop illegals working, er don't we already have a National Insurance card, a CSCS card on building sites and other ways to prove legality to work, what will make this different and if a company is happy to hire illegals how will this stop them, a complete waste of money

The prime minister is considering reintroducing a digital version of the cards, which were abolished in 1953. The prime minister is seriously considering introducing a universal digital ID system as a way of tackling illegal immigration and improving the delivery of public services.

Yes but what about those who do not
have or do not use a mobile phone?

I guess you will get a cheeky little card at an exorbitant cost to carry in your wallet?

Got nothing to do with immigration, it’s just another back door into censoring the internet and spying on people

That I do agree on.

I've no real objection to this, it's been thought about for decades.
However in my view, they should be made free to all UK citizens.

I recall the Blair government talking about doing this but then axed the idea, despite his massive parliamentary majorities.

Fine, bring them in, however make them free.
