M&S apologises over "trans employee" in Women's Bra department

Marks & Spencer has apologised to a mother for causing her teenage daughter “distress” after she was asked if she needed help by a transgender employee (Man) in its bra section.

The retailer said it was “truly sorry” after the mother complained that her 14-year-old daughter had felt uncomfortable when they were approached by a trans shop assistant in the lingerie area of the shop, where they were hoping to have a bra fitting.

Although the staff member was polite, the mother said she felt it was “completely inappropriate” for her daughter to be approached by a “biological male” in that section.

In a complaint to M&S, she told the retailer: “Imagine her horror, then, when the person to approach us and ask if we needed help was a transgender ‘woman’, ie, a biological male.

“This is obviously the case: he is at least 6ft 2in tall... My daughter recoiled, so I politely declined the offer and we left immediately. She was visibly upset and said she felt ‘freaked out’.”

The following day, an M&S customer service assistant replied, apologising for the incident.

“Thank you for reaching out to us and sharing your experience,” the email said. “We deeply regret the distress your daughter felt during her visit to our store.

Fiona McAnena, director of campaigns for the human rights charity Sex Matters, which campaigns for clarity about biological sex in law and life, said
“This is what happens when a business centres the feelings of men who identify as women, even at the expense of their own customers. It is entirely inappropriate for a man to approach a teenage girl in a lingerie department.

This happened a few weeks before the HIgh Court ruling
The mother argued that the retailer’s reply fell “significantly short of the response that was required to satisfy me that M&S takes seriously the safety and dignity of women and girls”.

Disgraceful

Unsurprising, womens comfort and dignity are secondary to transwomen even after the Supreme Court judgement

This disgraceful incident happened just before the High court had to state the bleeding obvious. Id imagine all the other female employees also thought it was wrong but were too scared to go against the captured senior management ideology. Just horrible. What an environment to work in  and m&s had the cheek to (as usual) hide behind the word "inclusive"

M & S have been out of touch with reality for decades … so the decision to allow a bloke to be advising young girls on their choice of underwear does not surprise me at all .

The wife drags me around M& S occasionally aa she likes their Per Una clothes ..

Anyways as I walk around the bloke’s clothes it looks like Stevie Wonder has selected the styles and colours plus everything seems suited to over 80 year olds

Don’t get me started on the ridiculous prices

Yeah I read it happened before the ruling, that said

MPs already trying to obstruct it

And don't ever forget how the transactivists (mainly men) made it all about bathrooms in order to minimise the issues transwomen in womens and girls spaces pose

It turned out that this man didn’t even work in the lingerie department...”

I can understand where the Mother is coming from to a point.

But there are biological women that can be taller than 6ft 2in, so her Daughter will have to be prepared for that as they're not going to be Transgender.

Did the Manager of the Store tell the Transwoman to go and see to the Mother & Daughter?

I don't believe so Mock, Shelia Fogerty made a very valid point yesterday, never ever been approached in M and S to see if I needed help in any department, in fact you would be hard pushed to find anyone on the shop floor to help.

She also wondered how many people did this person approach who were too fearful to refuse?

So it's hard for this worker to explain what they were doing in that particular aisle then.

Let me make this really easy for you, India. Lesbians belong in the women's
changing room because they're women. Cross-dressing men who offer to fit
bras on teenage girls belong in a police interview room.

It wasn't their job they were not based in that section

I am surprised that M&S did not ban the woman and her daughter for transphobia as well as reporting them to the police for committing a hte crime!!!

The way some trans-activists and people in my own union, that is what I would have expected M&S to do.
