Labours Homelessness Minister Evicts Tenants (Now Sacked)
Labour homelessness minister Rushanara Ali threw four tenants out of her east London townhouse before relisting the property for £700 a month more in rent, The i Paper can reveal.
The landlord MP has previously spoken out against “private renters being exploited” and said her Government will “empower people to challenge unreasonable rent increases”. Labour’s Renters’ Rights Bill, which will become law next year, prohibits landlords who have ended a tenancy in order to sell a property from relisting it for higher rent until at least six months after tenants have moved out. A source close to Ali said her tenants’ had been told their tenancy would not be renewed and were offered the chance to stay on a rolling contract before she put the house up for sale – and the property was only relisted for rent after she did not find a buyer. A spokesperson for Ali said: “Rushanara takes her responsibilities seriously and complied with all relevant legal requirements.” Conservative shadow Housing Secretary, James Cleverly, called on Ali to consider her position, saying the allegations “would be an example of the most extreme hypocrisy and she should not have the job as homelessness minister”. https://www.msn.com/en-gb/money/othe...2d23fbd53&ei=9 jeez we thought the Tories were bad :joker: |
I would imagine the loop hole is because she put it up for sale and it didn’t sell she was then able to re rent it
Morals means very little when it comes to making money |

She is the homelessness minister, its nothing to do with her morals..and more to do with the position she has been appointed to? Not sure why you give everyone a free pass, these people have been voted in to do the right thing, not to carry on as if they were Joe Bloggs |

When using self scan you would put an extra item in the trolley without scanning it, that’s playing the system, on a much lower level but it’s still playing the system Given the opportunity 99.9 percent of people will use the system to better themselves You never hear of a poor or homeless member of parliament do you? So it boils down to the fact if people can get away with it they will |
What is quiet depressing is Labour supporters lining up to ring in and say she did nothing wrong but they think she should resign...
why does she need to resign if she has done nothing wrong |

The new Bill is to come into Parliament to what she did makes it illegal. So she is doing it just before Labour's Renters Rights Bill becomes law. Also, she should not be the Minister for homeless |

The landlord MP has previously spoken out against “private renters being exploited” and said her Government will “empower people to challenge unreasonable rent increases”. It doesn't matter what I would do, I am not being paid by the taxpayer to protect the homeless. She has been put into this position I assume as the best person to do the job but as she is exploiting the system herself how can she possibly do that, yet another instance of do as I say not as I do and unfortunately Sheriff you are part of the problem as you just turn a blind eye, hopefully she is sacked by the end of the week and if she isn't I will be writing to my Labour MP to ask why not |
And actually Sheriff I wouldn't exploit people for gain, years ago we used to rent out our property in Spain, we had a couple who used to rent it now and again get in touch last summer to ask if we still rented, we don;t, but they were always great renters and kept in touch over the years even though they had not been out to Spain for some time, and are now in their 80s and even dont we dont rent any more we gave them our place for 8 weeks just after Christmas for a nominal fee just to cover the bills, we could have charged them the market rent but we didn't so I hope that answers your question.
