Spotted Dick, on the way out
Reports on TV news
it is no longer bought or baked. ["Spotted Dick" is a traditional British steamed pudding, and while its name might raise eyebrows, it's a beloved dessert made with suet and dried fruit, typically currants or raisins. The name, thought to originate from the "spots" of dried fruit and the word "dick" (a now-archaic term for dough), is not meant to be salacious. The dessert is often served with custard] A Great Desert |

just give it a different name, and that solves the problem as well

Sure that is possible. I guess in the Netherlands you have a Currant Sponge & fresh cream? |

My go to at primary school, and also an everlasting taste experience. A memory that is as vivid today as it was then.
Thank you spotted dick. RIP, my custard covered friend. |
That and custard, during dinner time at school during the bleak long winters, surrounded by Victorian plumbing that either chilled you to the bone if off, or scalded you each time you brushed past it getting up from your similarly Victorian desk, with its rigid wooden seating accomplice. It was like a soothing warm blanket, not only the warmth and comfort of the spotted dick with custard, but also the atmosphere in the dinner hall as everyone noticed what was on that day.
My granny was the dinner lady, so I could occasionally sneak up for 2nds. |
.. .. seemingly lemon meringue is also on the way out .. loads of places have stopped making it sadly
Luckily we found a bakers in Whitby who sell little lemon meringue pies !!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
