What’s your take on people snapping (taking pictures of) you?

Are you so camera-shy that you see it as a boundary-violation or is it just a spontaneous, natural form of bonding for you?

If I'm not familiar with the person then I'm not a fan.

Even if I’ve known the person all my life, I’m still not a fan.

I hate having my photo taken and actively avoid it in family gatherings/situations .

Sadly I do a fair amount of voluntary work and there always seems to be someone taking random photos of us all and uploading online and on the WhatsApp group etc … so it’s not nice but something I have no control over

There is no expectation of privacy in a public place

We all have our boundaries and preferences. There’s enough in life that we have to do without wanting to do them without being roped into selfies/group/photos unnecessarily. If that’s not what you want, it’s not what you want. People should respect that.

I agree, and go with this.

I don’t blame you. No means no, and that extends to getting snapped, too.

caprimint 24-08-2025 02:42 AM

I hate it so much

I’m glad I’m not the only one with this one. It’s a total lack of respect for someone’s boundaries when they’ve said they’re not comfortable with it. Again, no means no, in and outside the bedroom. I’m not saying that pushing someone into a group-picture they don’t want to be in as anywhere-near as bad as violating and overriding consent in sex but the principle of how no should be enough is key.

Everyone is being captured on cameras hundreds of times a day when out and about
And you don’t get a choice to not have your image captured

Ignore a camera and it ignores you

…in the/any working environment we have a right to privacy, and we have the right to refuse any photograph being used on social media or in any other media…/…no more so than in the now with GDPR laws so if that’s being breached then there is a genuine concern to be brought to the attention of an employer…
