The Red Bull Air race = Wowwwww!

I have just been sat out watching the qualifiers on the river, and it is still going on. The planes are great - and loud!!!!!! The actual race is tomorrow. It's really hot and such a nice day. Anybody else watching?

Kinda related, but it's the Sunderland Air Show today too and I've just seen some Lancaster bombers go over my house with the red arrows in tow. Yey.

I went up to watch the show, just for the Lancaster. I've seen it fly at events before but it is such an iconic machine that seeing it in the air has the effect of a flashback of being about 12 years old and building an Airfix model kit of the plane.

Must admit I got a shiver down the spine when it went over -and mentally hummed The Dam Busters March - as probably did everyone else on the seafront, the ones that were'nt singing it out loud that is!!

strange the effect a machine can have when it is steeped in such history

My dad was an air frames mechanic on Lancaster's when he was in the RAF.

Its always on channel 4 its boring as they always do the same track over and over again.

Princess 30-07-2007 02:12 PM

I saw a snippet of it on the telly. It looked pretty cool.

Wow!!!, great stuff.

When i was about 11[ish] I queued to sit in one at a display on Airborne Forces Day, wasn't a flight capable one - my dad was serving at that time [2 Para] , but the queue was huge and I gave up and went to the much shorter "Lightning" queue instead.

Oh how I regret that decision as an adult driving for two hours to watch a Lanc flyby :blush2:
