Glyn did a lot for spreading awareness of the Welsh Language. Possibly if he hadn't done that, I would find him a bit annoying, as is the case with Brian this year.

Brian and Glyn are 19 year odls they seem to have the emotional age of a 9 year old.

NickyBoo_GlynFan! 09-08-2007 04:21 PM

Lol!!!

a 9 year old lol

Of course their are going to be a few people but you and your friends are not representive of a very large portion of society.

Everybody knew the Welsh language existed before Glyn arrived anyway , and their has not exactly been a substantial amount of people pick it up. Not that im expecting their to be.

He brought the language to the young mainstream through Big Brother who might not of known the language existed but thats about it , and in reality , I dont see it making a damn difference.

NickyBoo_GlynFan! 09-08-2007 06:30 PM

Yeah , the sun was out at the time of his Big Brother fame , so of course he could have made it on to the front page easily , most of the prominent housemates did , and as your aware - he was quiet a prominent housemate - coming second.

You cant draw big conclusions from minor things like that. Yes he spread the language , but that was about it. Most people have moved on and forgotten , and I doubt many people outside Wales took the language up afterwards soley after him.

No im speaking for the argument in general from what ive seen. Glyn is hardly doing for Welsh what Chauccer did for English.

NickyBoo_GlynFan! 09-08-2007 07:05 PM

who is chaucacscacar?

cepb 09-08-2007 07:11 PM

Stu, what exactly did Chaucer do for English that Glyn didn't do for Welsh? All Chaucer did was write a few problematic pieces of hybrid literature like The Knight's Tale and Maud, not much else.

I'm not saying that Glyn made people learn Welsh, just that he made more people aware of the language.

From wikipedia :

Sometimes called the father of English literature, Chaucer is credited by some scholars with being the first author to demonstrate the artistic legitimacy of the vernacular English language, rather than French or Latin.

NickyBoo_GlynFan! 09-08-2007 07:12 PM

i totally agree cepb!!

I agree , he certainly did make it more aware , but for short term and to little extent. Its just the way some people are potraying it.

And Chaucer did much more than 'write a few problematic pieces of hybrid literature' as you put it.

NickyBoo_GlynFan! 09-08-2007 07:19 PM

i dont think any of us r saying glyn did that lol!
but he did make it more aware deffo x

Glyn and Imogen made people realise that Welsh is a language spoken by people (like me and a number of other people on the forum) every day. Maybe everyone still isn't hyped up about it, but the knowledge of the existence of the language is far more wide-spread than before he went into the house.
