FOOTIE legend Paul Gascoigne has signed for Strictly Come Dancing, The Sun can reveal.

Troubled Gazza, 40, will learn how to tackle the tango and dance the cha-cha-cha on BBC1’s hit ballroom dancing show.

The fallen England idol says he has kicked his booze addiction after having emergency surgery for a burst stomach ulcer.

Now he’s set to show off his nimble footwork once again after rejecting a place in ITV’s I’m a Celebrity . . . team — even though hosts Ant and Dec were desperate to get their old Newcastle United hero on board.

A source said: “Gazza was all set to go to the jungle, but pulled out and told the bosses he was going dancing instead.”

Gazza won 57 England caps and played for Tottenham, Lazio and Rangers.

But he has been on a downward spiral since he hung up his boots.

His bid to forge a career as a TV pundit ended amid reports of heavy boozing, and he was sacked as manager of non-league Kettering after just a couple of weeks.

He now hopes to win a new generation of fans when Strictly Come Dancing returns next month.

Gazza — who will be joined by model Kelly Brook — is following in the footsteps of sport stars like athlete Denise Lewis and cricketer Mark Ramprakash, winner of the last series.
