Fury over catwalk girl, aged 12

A 12-YEAR-OLD girl has caused a storm by modelling at one of the world’s largest fashion shows.

Maddison Gabriel wore a string of revealing outfits after being crowned the face of Gold Coast Fashion Week in Australia.

The country’s Prime Minister John Howard blasted the decision to use her as “outrageous” — but Maddison believes she is right for the job.

She said: “I believe that I can fit into women’s clothes, I can model women’s clothes, so I should be able to do it.

“It doesn’t matter about age, it matters that you can do the job. Modelling is all I've wanted to do since I was six — I don’t think I’m too young.”

Maddison made her first catwalk appearance on Saturday — but has also appeared in photos publicising the Queensland event after winning a competition to be its public face.

The prize included a contract with a modelling agency.

Fashion Week spokeswoman Kelly Wieler denied she was too young, saying: “Maddy got in because she was the best contestant — the judges saw that she was fit to do the job.”

And she said the girl would not model bikinis or lingerie.

But the schoolgirl, who celebrated her 13th birthday yesterday, has already appeared in swimwear shots in her portfolio.

Her mother Michelle said: “There’s been a carry-on about Maddison wearing adult clothes — but every 13-year-old I know wears adult clothes. I’m very proud of her.”

PM Mr Howard said girls younger than 16 should not be allowed on catwalks.

He said: “Catapulting girls as young as 12 into something like that is quite outrageous.”
# LONDON Fashion Week kicked off on Saturday night — with the British Fashion Council banning under-16s from the catwalk for the first time.

What do you think of this?

Personally, I think that letting a 12 year old girl model for a big fashion show is appauling! Flashing and showing off your body at that age is just wrong.

If you have got the body, then why not flaunt it in the right clothing for evryone to see on a catwalk. She might look much older than 12 years, more like 14 or 15 a friend of a friend of mine has a 12 year old daughter who would be happy to do that

If she wants to do it, she should go on ahead.

I for one think letting a young, vunerable girl do that is wrong.

I think 12 is far to young their bearly out of juniour school. As for her mother she should not encourage her to model at an early age maybe wait until shes at least sixteen when shes matured a little bit more.

exactly, girls grow up fast these days and towear those fab clothes and do the walk in them is great for her. in time to come, she could become a superstar model

She's flaunting off her body though, like Jackie said, she's bearly out of high school!!

i think its sick imagin the sick old men that will hace posters of this on there wall next therel be 12 year olds on the cover of nuts!!if a teenager wants to flaunt her body....fine but not in front of millions!

I find it shocking. I think I saw one picture somewhere, and she's a pretty girl and everything, but at her age it’s a bit extreme to be modelling women’s clothes, and swimwear etc. As a result there should probably be an age limit put on that kind of modelling, as with many things. I don’t think it’s right at all really. She can model for now if she wishes, but maybe teenaged clothing rather than bikinis - that way she's nearer to the success she wants for when she's older, and can still flaunt her body if she wants to... just not quite in the same way.

At least a little bit of innocence needs to be preserved within young people. Although youngsters want to act older and more mature, there are other ways to do that – and there is a limit.

12 is definately too wrong
the girl could possibly train and be ready for when she is old enough

but its pedofilic and she shouldn't be doing it in public

GabrielleisLove 17-09-2007 07:33 PM

I think she should wait a few years. Enjoy her childhood.

it's perfectly acceptable and not against the law, if it is what she wants to do and her parents allow it and she has a nice figure for the clothes she wears then whats the worry? too many narrowminded people worrying bout nouthing, she should be left to get on with it. more will follow in her footsteps im sure
