Concorde\'s last flight
 

Forgive me for being a tad nostalgic, but this plane has a special place in the heart of every Bristolian.

I can remember it flying over the centre of the City when it was being test flown and everyone gazing up at the sky as this beautiful (and that's the only word for it) plane flew overhead. And boy was it loud. However many times you saw it, you still could not refrain from looking up at the magnificent white bird shining in the sky.

My uncle actually worked on it at Filton where it was designed and test flown.

Never flew in it, surprise surpise, but I would have loved to.


So is supersonic flight a thing of the past?

Concorde was an environmental menace and a financial disaster

True Sticks - but it is still a plane amongst planes and when it flies back into Filton where it first took flight I shall be there!

We in Bristol are proud of it and it is something that will go down in history.

I love Concorde, shame it's last flight was today :bawling::bawling:

I agree Amy - I always wanted to fly Concorde, guess I never will now :bawling:

I can remember all the hype when it was launched. Then of course the stories about how much it would cost, it would never break even etc.........

However in the late sixties it fitted in so well with our belief that we were striding forward in giant steps. Moonlandings, boldly going, popart, all these super modern building we loved so much. It fitted in so well with the moment.

I think we may return to commercial supersonic flight one day, unless of course we learn how to beam ourselves up!

I saw the stories on the news last night - I made a special effort to watch it.

The pilot of the last flight from New York, Mike Bannister, is the father of one of the guys I used to work with in the IT dept at my company.

Needless to say, when he told us what his dad did, we were always a bit sceptical - didn't stop us from badgering him to see if we could get free flights on Concorde though. But we never did!!

Hard to believe with technology so advance now we are ending the age of supersonic flight.
