X Factor's Daniel criticises Louis
The latest act to be kicked off ITV talent show the X Factor has laid into his mentor Louis Walsh for not understanding him and choosing the wrong song for him to perform.

Daniel de Bourg became the second hopeful to be voted off the reality talent programme after judges criticised his choice of song.

The 31-year-old ballet tutor was an early favourite with bookmakers to win the ITV1 show but his rendition of the 1960s classic Build Me Up Buttercup failed to impress the panel.

His mentor Walsh voted to save him, but the other judges Sharon Osbourne, Danni Minogue and Simon Cowell all chose to keep 23-year-old Alisha Bennett on the show instead.

"I was surprised, of course I was surprised," Daniel said at a press conference. "I'm upset that I didn't get to show the real me.

"Louis knows what he's talking about, he's been in the game for a long time, but maybe he didn't really understand me, the kind of performer I am."

"I was doing my best in there with the song I was given, I tried to do it justice," he added. "But with a show like X Factor you have no say."

He described the process in which songs are matched to contestants as "backstage politics" and explained he had been due to sing the Damien Rice hit Cannonball before producers told him to do Prince's When Doves Cry instead.

Only after last Saturday's live show did he discover that a more upbeat song choice was required.

"After the end of the first week Louis came up to me just as I was leaving to get into the car, and said 'we've changed the song,'" he said. "It was absolutely not the right decision. "I don't know what was going on behind the scenes, it's a big, big TV show."

I totally agree.

He definitely had the wrong song on Saturday.

'Louis doesn't know you':
Song choice is disastrous for Daniel
DISHY Daniel de Bourg has spoken for the first time about the disastrous decision to sing Build Me Up Buttercup on X Factor and revealed: “I’m gutted.”

Dance teacher Daniel, 31, mentored by Louis Walsh, was voted off the show last night and said that he was baffled about the song choice because he got on the show for singing “soulful stuff…not big, happy songs.”

He said: “Maybe if I had been able to do what I wanted, it would have been a great show."

“I think it reflects more on the song than it does me."

“It feels strange at the moment. I did my best with the song that I was given. I wasn’t going to sing that song, I was going to do Prince’s When Doves Cry, but I tried to do it justice anyway.

“The thing is with a show like X Factor, you have to do what they say."

“Louis came up to me at the end of the first week and he was like, ‘we’re changing the song’.

“I was like, ‘Buttercup? You sure about that, Louis?’

He said [putting on an Irish accent], ‘Trust me, trust me, it’s alright, everyone loves Buttercup. Just do it.’”

The rugged star was voted into the bottom two with Sharon Osbourne protege Alisha Bennett.

Now he says that he has been flooded with calls from record labels since leaving the show last night and is now looking for the golden ticket by securing a record deal, but admits that he is not bitter.

He said: “I’m thinking that maybe they did me a big, big favour.

“Louis’ a great guy, I don’t think I was set up at all like some people were saying.

“He didn’t see it the same way everyone else did."

“All the contestants were like, ‘what happened?’ Niki especially. She went up to them and said, ‘Do you realise what you have just let go?’"

The 31-year-old said that superstar songstress Celine Dion, who helped mentor the last 11 for the week, was a real inspiration.

And the budding star revealed that Simon Cowell came up to him after the show and said: ‘Louis doesn’t know you.’

He said: ““I was thinking, ‘wow, should I be saying thanks?’

“The best thing to come from the evening was Celine Dion. She came up to me and said: ‘You were my favourite.’”

The Londoner, who has a three-year-old son Theron, is now chomping at the bit as he looks to make his next move He said: “Maybe I was the wrong kind of dude for the show.

“I wanted to make a difference, I wanted to change things, but now I have responsibilities.

“I have been seen by millions and millions of people around Europe and I’ve got a lot of people giving me love right now.”

But just like barmaid Kimberly Southwick, who was the first to leave the live shows last week, the doting dad has backed 34-year-old Niki Evans to go on and win the show.

He said: “All the way for me.

“She’s wonderful, humble and so talented. I think she’ll do it.”

Even though it was a bad song choice, Daniel could've done a much better job of it. His performance was awful regardless of the song itself. The judges gave him the oppurtunity to blame Louis and the song choice on Saturday night so he should have done that there and then, but instead he chose not to and acted like he had no problem with the song.

Louis is so dated. He needs to start living in 2007 rather than 1970.

He says "you remind me of a young <Insert name>" after every performance.

At first i thought it was a good idea to bring him back ive changed my mind.

Louis let Daniel down.

I don't understand why Louis changed the song to Buttercup, it was always a daft choice and just shows how out of touch Louis can be.

Even if it was the wrong song, Daniel shouldn't criticise Louis because at least he gave him a chance to be on the show. Daniel should respect him instead of slagging Louis off, it's not his fault if he was rubbish last saturday.

Correct me if I am wrong, but to be a really good singer, don't you have to be able to sing any type of song no matter what it is?

Like Leona last year, and Niki is this year.

Yes I agree, even if it's a rubbish song, he had to deald with it and to make it better. Leon is not responsible of Daniel's eviction.

Niki has not proven that this year.

Niki has not proven that this year. [/quote]

She will though. She has the best voice.

Shaun 29-10-2007 12:27 PM

"Niki this year"? She's sung two power ballads. And I really doubt she can sing anything else.

As for Daniel - bleh. He wasn't going to stand a chance of winning anyway.

XxShortyxX 29-10-2007 12:29 PM

I think she can, she has the best voice, a strong voice. Unlike Rydian who can only sing Opera.

She's struggled with a more up-tempo song in boot camp. She has got a good voice but so far only really proven she can sing ballads, which is in her comfort zone.

Rhydian sung an ABBA song during his audition and last week he sung a meatloaf song, they're not Opera.

"I Will Do Anything For Love" isn't a song from an opera...thusly he has proved that he can sing a song that ISN'T opera.

If you mean his voice, then of course he'll always sing like that; asking him to anything but sing in his singing voice is riduculous, it's like asking Niki to from now on use a Texan accent when singing.
