Windows Media Player 11 - Vista HELP!
 

please..

i get these squares yellow and blue blotches when im playing files, not all just on some videos anyone know why.

Maybe some of your video's aren't vista enabled or something.

I see your watching programming from ABC HD. That might have something to do with it, high definition and all...

...I don't think there's such thing as a video file being incompatible with Vista :laugh:

Maybe you don't have the processor power.

The problem with Microsoft is they are not good at writing optimized and their programs tend to be processor hungry and big and bulky. It's why the size of windows keeps growing and requiring faster and faster processors. Although new features are added which is good, the users never see an improvement in the basic performance of the OS from one version of windows to the next.

If it streamed video it could be the internet connection speed.

Good points Red and Matt. Is your computer designed for vista or has it been updated from XP or something?

That won't matter. Every Windows computer can run Vista.

The problem is if it will run it well or not... Vista is very power and space hungry

That looks like it is a problem with overlays.

In the menu go to Tools / Options... then select the Performance tab and click the Advanced button.

Under Video Acceleration check if 'Use video mixing renderer' is selected and try 'Use overlays' as on or off and 'Use high quality mode' as on or off. You might need to restart the media player or re-load the video after you change the setting before it will take effect.

Also check that there is no other video running on the computer when playing the video.

Not every windows computer. I have an old windows 95 machine somewhere that works perfectly with windows 95 and office 97 but I wouldn't dare put vista on it. The pentium 1 would throw a fit and throw the towel in.

The general rule of thumb I have always use about upgrading is:

"if a machine is more than a year and half old when a new version of the OS comes out the stick with the version of windows you have on it. It will run better and it will be fast enough for you need it to do. If it is that old and you still want the new OS go buy a new machine. "

i think that should do the trick. but the options are diffrent on vista ..?

ive seen many videos from abc hd, and thats an avi file downloaded from torrents and it works fine usualy i just think it needs codecs or something like james was saying.. *hmm*

Yeah, I see now that Vista doesn't have those options.

Try downloading and installing FFDShow from here - http://www.afterdawn.com/software/vi..._610__20061201

You might need to adjust options in that if the video doesn't display properly like before.

Or download another player...... try VLC player

VLC player is really good. But it's kinda slow sometimes.

And it has the advantage it plays broken avi files unlike windows media player.

i downloaded divx player.. the bundle and its done the trick :) x
