This is very VERY embarrassing for the Spice Girls... Single Flops at #10

If heatworld was the Spice Girls we’d be feeling pretty flipping embarrassed right now. The girls released their comeback single Headlines (Friendship Never Ends) on actual physical CD this week and let's just say it doesn’t look like the track is about to set the charts on fire. heatworld’s been examining the midweek sales charts, which usually give a very accurate indication of where a single will chart come the all important Top 40 countdown on Sunday. The Spices have ONLY JUST scraped into the Top 10, although they have moved up the chart from 23 (a position they reached previously on just downloads sales). Now far be it for heatworld to kick a dog when it’s down, but frankly not reaching Number One (Leona’s still there, followed by Take That) is a DISASTER, particularly as the track is also the official Children In Need song, which should in theory help boost sales. So, is the Spice Girls comeback over already, or is Headlines just a really crappy song?

Based on downloads alone, the single reached #20, dropped to #23 and with physical sales it looks to rise up to #10 based on midweeks.

Which is very embarassing and damaging to their chart history. I was hoping for at least top 3.

More people need to buy it!

Wow, that's dreadful for a CIN single.

The song itself isn't great enough to do well, but I did think it would do better purely because it was for CIN. Maybe miming on the show didn't help things.

Captain.Remy 20-11-2007 07:39 PM

Well that's not surprising at all ! Most of people thought it was a flop even before they reformed.

001steven 20-11-2007 08:17 PM

thats not bad considering everyone was saying it will flop...NO.10 is good but i would like at least top 5

Sam 20-11-2007 08:25 PM

Considering that Emma was at #2 in midweeks for her Children in Need single this time last year. It all goes down to the song - its not very good.

Hugo 20-11-2007 08:27 PM

They deserve it. Victoria Beckham will do anything to be as successful as her husband.

Dan_ 20-11-2007 09:08 PM

For a Children In Need single, that is very bad, might even be the lowest charting CIN song ever.

Callum 20-11-2007 09:10 PM

I bought it from iTunes last week, it's alright but it's not exactly great for a comeback single.

Hugo 20-11-2007 09:14 PM

If it was a normal single released in the 90's when they were big, I doubt if would have made the top 40!

Benji 20-11-2007 09:27 PM

i really enjoy this song, it isnt there best song, but, i really like it!....i think there is too much negativity around this tour which makes people not want to buy it....thats my theory! :P...lol

Fantastic news! :spin:

Shame CIN won't be getting as much money for it, but it serves them right for working with the Spice Girls
