Big Brother to the rescue

AS reality shows such as The HotHouse and My Restaurant Rules perform badly, plans are in place for an old favourite to return.

Yesterday, the producers of Big Brother hit Melbourne for auditions for the fourth series of the show, which is expected to premiere after Easter in April.
TV experts are saying reality television is dead in Australia, and the Ten network must be a little nervous about how the show will go after The HotHouse debacle.

But Ten's man in charge of reality TV, Tim Clucas, said the network would go back to basics with BB4, which it hoped would win back audiences to the 7pm slot.

So, unlike last year's third series, there won't be the confusion of two houses and contestants going into the houses at different stages.

"You could categorise this year as a classic Big Brother," Clucas said. "The surprises will be how the time in the house unfolds for the people.

"We will be looking to meet the group on the opening night, get to know them, and get them into the house together and go back to that real unique bond that the housemates have the minute they walk in."
