Jungle final Vote \'Fixed\'

JUNGLE FINAL VOTE 'FIXED'
TELLY bosses were reeling last night over a jungle fix storm.

I’m A Celebrity fans claimed they could not vote for loudmouth Janice Dickinson.

One told the Daily Star: “I tried to call all night and couldn’t get through. It stinks.”

Viewers claim 52-year-old Jan’s number was engaged throughout Friday night’s live final – while telly rival Christopher Biggins’ line was always available, despite supposedly getting more calls.

Many are convinced the ITV voting systems “messed up”. And they claim panto dame Biggins should not have been crowned King Of The Jungle.

Show insiders told the Daily Star that, despite the bookies having roly-poly Biggins as favourite, he was in fact trailing model Janice in the voting all week in the run-up to the final.

However, that strong support evaporated at the last minute – with the spotlight now thrown on the telephone system.

Furious fans claim thousands of votes may have gone missing. Janet Daley, 36, of Wolverhamp-ton, called the Daily Star to say: “My family wanted Janice to win and were voting all week.

“But on Friday the votes kept being rejected. Sometimes it’d be engaged, other times the line would go dead.

“Talking to friends, they had the same result. A couple said they called in for Biggins to test that line – and got through first time.

“I tried all night for Janice and I don’t think a single one got through.”

On websites, fans alleged ITV “rigged” the show as Biggins, 58, has a deal in the pipeline to appear in their new show Star Traders.

One forum poster called Margaret, on gambling site Betfair, moaned: “It took me 20 attempts to finally register a vote for Janice. Something is not right if it was a problem throughout the night.”

A fan using the name Mugptr said: “I tried both lines, easy on one but not on the other – no need to guess which one.

“I know it was obvious on face value who ITV wanted to win because of future contracts.”

Other fans think TV bosses edited the show in Biggins’ favour so that early favourite Janice would not look so good come the final.

He is now due a £1million payday after taking the crown ahead of Janice and hunk Jason “J” Brown, 31, who came third.

SparkleBabe said on the website Digital Spy: “We have been subjected to pro-Biggins propaganda on ITV for the past week, not to mention the countless luvvies coming out of the woodwork to support him.

“To put it bluntly, I do not trust ITV when it comes to phone votes and I am convinced they fiddled this.”

Forum member Reality Sucks added: “I feel it must be fixed but it probably wasn’t – just manipulated in Biggins’ favour.”

Music mogul Malcolm McLaren walked out at the beginning of the series claiming it was a fix.

The Godfather Of Punk, 61, threw show chiefs into crisis last month by claiming they had already picked their winner.

He said: “I think they fix it and they know exactly who’s gonna win and who’s gonna lose.”

Jungle hosts Ant and Dec, both 32, apologised last month after Saturday Night Takeaway and Gameshow Marathon were caught up in an £8m phone line scandal.

ITV chiefs last night strongly denied the jungle fix claims. They said there were no problems with the phone voting and staff had received no official complaints.

A spokesman insisted the show was “editorially balanced” – and not edited in Biggins’ favour.

She added: “We have taken action to ensure our interactive services are completely robust. The phone lines were monitored to ensure fair and transparent operations. Biggins won fair and square.”

I voted 3 times for Janice on Friday, and it wasn't engaged once. This carry on about "fixed voting" has become a bit of a trend as of late.

supernoodles! 03-12-2007 11:33 AM

I got through but who knows maybe others diddnt

Red Moon 03-12-2007 11:38 AM

I'm sure the Janice supporters on here would have complained before now if there was a problem with the phone lines on I'm a Celebrity get me out of here.

Sounds like "sore losers" on Digital Spy and maybe other forums spinning tales because their sweet Janice didn't win ant they feel cheated. There has been a lot of the "sore losers" culture about this year since the twins didn't win Big Brother 8.

I doubt its true as it is, but with all the phone in scandals i wouldn't be surprised. ITV could make more money for themselves if Biggins won than if Janice did. I feel The Biggins Show coming on.

Riz 03-12-2007 11:56 AM

hang about this happend when i rang in for hope! i demand a revote lol :D

Looking at the treads on Digital Spy, I think what we have is two things going on.

First is the cheap tricks people pull to try and gain votes for their favorite. In this case it is someone saying that the lines are engaged so that other Janice supporters ring again to see if the reports are correct and hence give Janice another vote. It an old trick we have seen pulled here before.

Secondly there is thread started by someone upset that Janice didn't win thinking it might be a fix. People who are taken in by the engaged phone lines story then start adding fuel to the fire and we end up with a newspaper story in the national press written by a reporter looking for a cheap story.

Sunny_01 03-12-2007 01:14 PM

My sister voted for Janice and had no problem getting through the million times that she voted

Lol this ent the fist time though. I don't trust any programme where you have to vote, because we will never no who get's the most votes, they only way we do is when they tell us, rather then showing us which I think they should do, then we wouldn't get the 'Fix' thing.

Ruth*Star 03-12-2007 02:46 PM

I voted for janice once, and i got through the one time i voted, i wanted Janice to win but i don't think anything was fixed.

Daniel__ 03-12-2007 02:56 PM

I would have said Big Brother is a good show to vote on. The votes and the system are checked by the Electoral Reform Services. Which is one of the world's leading independent supplier of ballots and election services. It's so good is in fact that is recognised by the United Nations and in UK Acts of Parliament. And unlike the ITV polls votes cast outside the voting times will not be counted and you don't get charged.

Maybe ITV should take a leaf out of Channel 4 and use a outside recognised body to check the voting.

Big Brother voting is much more fair than your average Russian general election.

natjake2504 03-12-2007 03:50 PM

i agree with that. Its all fair and well that itv do say that they my not be counted but still charged..... in my eyes if they dont count they should NOT be charged!!!

It may well have bben fixed. ITV wouldn't want Janice to win they'd make more money out of Biggins winning. I agree with Arneldo, The Biggins show looks like a safe bet for the future.

How would it make much difference if Biggins came first or second to any contract for some kind of show he might have got from ITV? In fact it would have been cheaper for them if he had come second because the agent will now be able to demand more money?

He didn't have to win to be offered a show they could have done it anyway. In fact it could already have been in he pipeline before he did "I'm a Celebrity get me out of here".

And in any case what would be the point of fixing it and risking a massive fine and a possible prosecution?

Billy 03-12-2007 04:42 PM

Come to think of it, Gemmas lines were engaged on the night she went FIX :P

With your luck you were probably dialing your own number by mistake.

All true but I doubt if Janice would do as many interviews for the show as Biggins is likely to do. She's more likely to go back to the states. It's just like last year when David Gest should have won but was mysteriously voted out towards the end. I dont think I'm a celebrity would welcome an American winning the show.

She already has jetted off to the States she did that as soon as the show finished so you right she won't be doing an interviews except in the US.

So you agree with the Daily Star that it is a fix?

GiRTh 03-12-2007 04:57 PM

It probably isn't a fix but ITV have got the winner they wanted.

I think you are right they did get the winner they wanted. Biggins is much more likely to go out there next year to be the King of the Jungle in the ITV2 spin off show than Jancie for starters. But there is no way it was a fix.

The story is just a combination of someone trying to get people to vote by making up a story that the lines were engaged to get Janice more votes and then someone crying it was a fix on a Digital Spy because their favorite was robbed of the title.
