Spandau Ballet to reform?

According to the Bizarre column in The Sun. I wonder if LEE has an opinion on this one.

Quote:

Spandau reunite

IT?S tragic but I know this much is True ? SPANDAU BALLET are reforming.

Original members GARY and MARTIN KEMP, STEVE NORMAN and JOHN KEEBLE are all ready to work together again.

And even Gary?s sworn enemy TONY HADLEY has indicated he?s prepared to ignore their differences and mount a comeback.

The Eighties new romantics band will sign a record deal, make a new album then hit the road for an extensive tour.

A source told me: ?Spandau Ballet have seen the success of DURAN DURAN and want to get in on the action. They want a piece of the nostalgia pie.

?There have been bitter rivalries. But they are finally willing to put them to one side to work again.

"The five of them believe they still have a lot to offer. They are very keen to work on new material and not just become a tribute band to the 1980s.?

The band had one of the messiest divorces in music history.

The five Londoners were all mates at school before joining forces to lead the new romantic movement.

They scored eight Top Tens between November 1980 and November 1986 ? their golden period.

Spandau?s most famous tunes include Gold, True and To Cut A Long Story Short.

But in 1996, singer Tony, drummer John and sax player Steve launched a legal battle against songwriter Gary Kemp. The bandmates argued that Gary had always promised to split the royalties between them.

Their legal teams were demanding around £1million each in back pay.

But when the case came to court in 1999, the trio lost and ended up out of pocket. They all had to shell out £100,000 in legal costs.

Later, the same trio fell out with Gary?s brother Martin.

Tony was amazed to receive a writ on Christmas Eve 2001 from former EastEnder Martin banning him from using the name Spandau Ballet on a nostalgia tour.

Last year Tony won reality TV show Reborn In The USA. But the victory did not provide the boost to his solo career which he was expecting.

Now he has accepted his best option is to get back with his old mates. But it?s unlikely he and Gary will ever become friends again.

I await with bated breath. Let?s just hope this isn?t the start a revival of shoulder pads and frilly shirts.

Yeah James we saw this as well.

All I can say for now is that Tone has certainly not mentioned it (though maybe he wouldn't have cos he knows exactly how Jet would react to this idea lol). I would be amazed if it was true, him and Gary are still at daggers drawn, so much to the point that when we were with some of Tone's current band members last week after Tone sang Through the Barricades televised on the London Restaurant Awards they were joking that we were all expecting a phonecall from Gary theatening to sue again as Tone had sung an old Spandau hit on TV without getting Gary's permission - the phrase 'I feel another court case coming on' was definitely heard lol

I can't see Martin wanting to go back to his SB days either, he's a successful actor now and when someone asked him whether he would be interested in this a little while back he said a definite no, joking that 'people have now discovered that I can't play the guitar or sing so it wouldn't be a good idea'

We're seeing Tone tonight so I definitely think it will be a topic for conversation after a few beers. I'll let you know what he says.

OK, I can now definitely say that this is not true. Tone's reaction to the story in The Sun is unprintable lol (it began with 'F' and ended in 'off')- though he was actually very amused by the whole thing

It was Rick Drummies birthday yesterday (Peter Cox's partner in Go West) and we were all in the bar until 3:30am this morning and I feel very much the worse for wear lol - but at least I haven't got to do a gig in Middlesborough tonight like everyone else has lol

Are you saying that Victoria Newton makes up stories to go in The Sun's Bizarre column? I'm shocked.

Of course not!!! I'm sure she just got the wrong end of the stick from her 'source' lol
