Mr Rude will be French & smelly.

KIDS’ favourite the Mr Men is set to portray the French as impolite, ill-mannered and SMELLY.

A new TV cartoon version of big-nosed Mr Rude has given him a Gallic accent, and shows him inviting children to pull his finger — then loudly breaking wind.

He is one of several characters to star in the series on Five, based on the classic books by Roger Hargreaves.

But Mr Rude is the only one with a non-British voice. He also loses the English-style top hat he originally wore.

Triangle

A spokesman for the French ambassador said yesterday Mr Rude was “unlikely to improve Anglo-French relations”.

A Five spokesman said: “The fact Mr Rude has a French accent is meant to be light-hearted and tongue-in-cheek, and no offence to the French.”

But the show’s makers Chorion said the English view of the French as impolite was well-known.

Other characters have had makeovers for the TV series, which starts this month. Mr Strong has turned from a square shape into a triangle, and Little Miss Naughty has a new curly hairdo.

I heard about this on Radio 1 this morning, Chris Moyles and his team were taking the piss.

Mr Men yey!!!! :cheer2:.... oh lol. Showing a bit of french stereotype which is a bit racist yeh.

Captain.Remy 11-02-2008 03:26 PM

This is sick, we don't deserve it. It's just a stupid stereotype which upsets me a lot. I thought it was something for children in order to be more tolerant and nicer with people, but what will they think about us ? It will teach only bad things.

If it's affecting you then maybe you should contact OFCOM and report it before the Mr. Men series goes on air. They always investigate claims seriously. I admit, it is a bit racist and isn't really giving the UK a good name in cultural society.

Sam! 11-02-2008 03:38 PM

I lovve Mr Men aswell :( Have the whole series... pooey Mr Rude.

Shaun 11-02-2008 03:43 PM

It's only a harmless joke

I'm sure the PC Brigade will maul it to pieces before long, though.

Yeah, alot of people think the Northern Irish are sectarian towards each other. It was true a while back, but not for a good few years, though I just let it pass. I couldn't care less when other Brits slag me off lol. Anyway, its only a cartoon for 5 year olds lol

But that kind of "harmless joke ", as I read earlier, shouldn't be on air, it doesn't give the food values to 5 years old children. It'snot a good thing to do considering that nowadays, the governments try to fight against racism and dicriminations.

And it's definately not nice to read that and more, to watch that on TV as a french person.
Then if it was an other country (black, muslim or whatever) , it wouldn't have been created. Imagine if Mr. Terrorist was an Irakian. It's not right at all.

To portray Mr Rude as a French man is a bit more than a harmless joke.

I am going to agree for "arrogant" but not rude, everybody is rude in a way, in every country.
