Should All International Adoption Be Banned?
Hi guys, this is a question I have to answer for one of my English essays. I would really value your opinions as this is a subject I have no knowledge about whatsoever, so any information along with your opinions would be appreciated alot. I am looking for opinions that will suit both sides of the arguement, so international adoption should be banned because... or international adoption shouldn't be banned because...
Thanks in advance  |
Do you mean what Madonna/Angelina Jolie have done?

No. If children are in need of help, then who are we to decide who provides it? (criminal records aside)
|
I dont think it should be banned - our country has loads of the right needs for children, like food money, edjucation.. - and some places dont even have enuff money, food etc ..
So i dont think it should be banned - every child deserves the best life possible x |
But what about children in care in the UK system, why should they be bypassed because someone wants a cute baby from overseas where the parents there are putting it up for adoption to a) make money or b) give it a better life? Could this be a backdoor to get around our tough immigration laws?
|
No, If I wanted a chinese kid I would adopt a cinease kid...

And ultimately the British children in need of adoption should have no preferential treatment over foreign children. |
I am not opposed to people adopting from abroad, it gives a child a future to look forward to HOWEVER. I do think that Sticks has a point. The care system in the UK is already over stretched with children who are already cleared for adoption however because they are often a little older or dont meet specific requirements they end up staying in the system. That all said social services have made it such a difficult system that people are put off by going through the UK system.

Although it would be desirable to adopt from those in need here in the UK freedom of choice is an important principle to uphold.
|
We have targets to be reached for adoptions here in the UK.
Children are a commodity, we may like it or not, they are. Personally I have no problem adopting any child from any country as long as it is all above the law and the proper checks done or the parents to be. |
As long as it makes a happy child then I don't see the problem. A child from overseas deserves to be happy as much as a one from UK.

As long as it does not hurt anyone and it makes a happy child, then I can't see where the problem is. Simple as. |
The point has nothing to do with the relative prosperity of other countries, as my argument could apply to adopting a baby from the US or any other "rich" country, it is about not using one legal process, (adoption) to circumvent rules surrounding another legal process (immigration)

I can't see why is that a problem for you. I mean, it takes ages to adopt a children from an overseas country by that way so imagine if it was done differently, it would be worse. |
Can I just say thankyou to everyone who replied for all your comments, I added them all into my essay and it really helped me. So thanks alot for all of your thoughts/opinions. :spin:

sort of... there are like, thousands of children here in the uk who have been abandoned by their parents, are they less in need of a family than 'unwanted' kids in other countries? maybe, i guess, if they're living in worse conditions which is the case in third world countries, i'm supposing...
|
I don't think it should be banned. If I were an orphan in a third world country who didn't even have enough food, I would be very grateful to be adopted by a couple in the UK or elsewhere.
