Dezzy\'s opinions on stuff!

I thought, why not join the trend!

Media = Violence?
This is something that has always annoyed me, when people say 'that film is too violent, it will make people think it's OK to hurt people 'Games train children to kill' ETC. I think that placing the blame at the media's door for a rise in violence is wrong. It's just creating a scapegoat and not dealing with the problem. If someone goes out and stabs somebody to death I doubt very much that GTA drove them to do it, nobody can be influenced to hurt or kill anyone it has to be within them to do it.

The Next American President
I support Barrack Obama, I think it's great how he plans to tackle the real problems in America such as poverty, gun crime and people dropping out of school. I think he can truly help make a better America. I'm not against Hillary Clinton per se, it's just I read a lot about how she wants to create a 'family-based' america by restricting access to mature films, games, TV shows ETC and since I'm a media student and i'm generally very interested in media anyway. I think it's wrong to restrict these things as everyone has a right to show their creativity in these different platforms if they want, it's up to the audience to decide to watch it or not and not just alienate thousands of people without families because somebody is frightened of what Timmy might be watching.

The Next Prime Minister
It's an awful bunch, so i'm not taking part in any voting since i think all the candidates are no good.

Burma
I think it's horrific what has happened and the fact that the burmese government is refusing help. People are dying and are in desperate need of help, the government should put it's differences aside and accept outside help, the people should always be a first priority for any government.

Drugs
I really don't like drugs at all, My uncle was a drug addict who died of an overdose last year. He overdosed on heroin I think and he is the reason I'm against drugs. I hated him in life, his drug habbit nearly destroyed the family. He stole, he lied and he even attacked my cousin (Who was 10 at the time) in hopes of stealing his birthday money. He was despicable. I'm against drugs because it's so incredibly selfish, Drug addicts put their families and people who care about them through so much pain.

I know some drugs like marijuana and the like aren't that dangerous and i can see the reasons why people want to legalise it but with my uncle and the druggies i knew at school ETC is that it always starts with small stuff and that they go on to stuff like cocaine and ecstasy. I think that as long as you're careful marijuana is just about acceptable in my books but like i said before, in my experiences people always goes on to crave more.

I'd never preach to someone and i'd never tell anyone what they should or should not do since I believe people need to make their own mistakes in life and learn from them, so if someone wants to take drugs then i think they should do what they want. I'm not sure if that makes me a hypocrite but oh well my views on drugs are complicated to explain.

Finally, I do believe this is my longest post ever and sorry for the wall of text!

Some very well written opinions their. Im still not a fan of the argument that cannabis is a gateway drug though. What about alcohol? I think that can also be a drug that leads to worse things.

Tom4784 18-05-2008 02:39 PM

True, I forgot to mention alcohol. I have the same opinion as i do with drugs, I'm very much against it but in the end it's up to individuals if they choose to partake in it or not.

Thats always the big catch-22 when it comes to drugs. So much of it depends on the person.

Sorry to hear about your uncle. Some Heroin junkie took a slice of pizza off me last week. It fell on the ground and he still picked it up and ate it.

Tom4784 18-05-2008 02:42 PM

Don't feel sorry for him, i'm not.

You have to in a way. Heroin changes people. Dont think of what he was like on the stuff. Think of what he was really like.

Tom4784 18-05-2008 02:56 PM

I only ever really knew him as a druggie, we tried to help him and he wouldn't budge we held interventions and the like but he didn't care. I appreciate what you're saying but in his case he just didn't care about what he was doing to us, so i can't forgive him for that. It probably makes me look cold and evil but i just can't forgive him for the things he did.

But that's a personal example, I know that not all drug addicts are beyond help and i'll always be sympathetic and supporting to those who seek help.
