My Parents Are Getting Divorced

They're getting divorced and they told me last night and I was really sad and still am  I don't want them to split up, but I know its selfish if I keep asking them to make up. I'm worried it might be my fault that they are splitting up. Its really sad :bawling:

Hugo 13-06-2008 06:19 PM

Where did that post go?

mlwfan 13-06-2008 06:22 PM

Sorry.

I removed it since you replied to the u2u.

Lauren 13-06-2008 06:22 PM

Hey - sorry to hear about that.

However, don't worry about it being your fault - it certainly isn't. It's going to be hard to deal with, but you really need to understand they love you as much as they always have and you're not to do with the breakup.

Things are going to seem hard at first but soon you'll fall back into routine and will manage. Try not to dwell on why they have split up, and focus more on supporting them both and being strong.

Good luck

Thanks for that  I'm sure it will get better in time and it can't get any worse.

Thats bad

but dont worry it isnt your fault

AlexBigBrother 13-06-2008 06:25 PM

you're not being selfish at all!
you're just acting naturally!
just keep your head up and realise that everything will be fine, your parents still love you!

Hugo 13-06-2008 06:25 PM

Thanks for the support

Yeah, just understand it's not your fault - and it's not their fault either. It's unfortunately just something that happens with a lot of families. I hope it gets easier soon though.

Bells 13-06-2008 06:25 PM

I'm sorry to hear you're going through this. - whatever is going on is between your parents though, and nobody else. Don't for one second think that it's your fault, because it's not: it's your parents that need to sort this themselves, because it is their relationship that needs mending. Unfortunately, this is not an uncommon thing to happen, but bear in mind that although you're feeling sad now, the environment will probably end up being a lot healthier for you when neither of them are arguing.

Above all, both of them will always still love you even if they don't love each other. Hopefully they will be mature enough to keep a friendship going between the two of them still, for your welfare. After all, despite any arguments, they still spent years together. Whatever happens - whether they stay together or not - I hope everything works out for you. xxx

Thanks. I know that it isnt my fault really but its just hard to take and the first person to blame is myself but it isn't anybodys fault its fate.

Oh my god that was such a good post. Thank you so much. It really helped. The main thing I want to come out of this is for them to still be civil and not igonore each other forver.

I remember my parents splitting up, I took it really badly, i was about 14/15. And I was in tears for night after night. Still not mended my relationship with my dad and im 18.
I never thought my parents would divorce, because they always seemed so close, but i could see the divide towards the end.

Hope everything gets better for you, its a tough time, if you cant handle it think of going for counseling i wish i did when i was younger.

Firewire 13-06-2008 09:05 PM

My Mum and Dad might be splitting up. :bawling:

It has nothing to do with my Dad it is all my mums fault but I don't want to get into the details of why they MIGHT be splitting up.

Corkie 13-06-2008 09:16 PM

I'm sorry to hear that mate.

I'm sure it isn't you fault. My mum and dad split up and they kept telling me it wasn't me and my brothers fault.

I was 5 so i've just always known for them not to be together but i'm sure you'll always be upset about it but soon you'll get used to the idea.

:( Its a horrible thing but most of us go through it.

I did. And I revealed it on TiBB back in September. The support from these guys was great. If you look back through my posts youll see it.

Everyone says to you 'its fine' 'its sad' blah blah, but the one thing that I promise you will get you through it is to keep your spirits up.

Its hard not to cry, but if you think of it as a new start for your Mum, your Dad and you, you will feel so much better.

For the first week it happened to me I was in denial. I didnt cry straight away and as my Mum left I just went on my laptop hoping that it would just all go away, but the best thing is to stick by them both, support them (no matter how much you dont want to)

Its a horrible thing to say but sometimes its for the better. I'm not as finanically well off, but Im just as happy. My Dad still has his moments where he cries, but I tell him 'how much better has it been?' and he smiles, even though it was my Mum that left him.

I do hope youve read this because its nice to give someoen whos going through the same thing I went through some advice.

Just go to school, and live your normal everyday life. Try not to let it get to you.

Lauren 14-06-2008 06:42 PM

Chris' advice is absolutely sound.

Shaun 14-06-2008 06:43 PM

I'm sorry to hear about that. My parents are also getting divorced, after separating a year or two ago. So I understand, but hopefully they'll be happier people when apart.

I hope everything works out :)

Oh honey I'm so sorry but please believe me this is not your fault and I know that this must be a very stress and upsetting time. I am sure that your parents have thought long and hard about doing this.

All I can really say is that I know at this time it must seem like a very black time and things will seem very difficult but things will get batter. It may not seem like it now but it will. Things take time to heal but you must remember to keep your chin up and remember that at times like these it always helps to talk about how you feel, even if its on TiBB people will always be hear to help.

Take care xxx
