Should we have death row?

Do you feel its time we got tough on crime? How about murder and other evil crimes, whats best way to deal with these crimes? Would a death row system be best way insted of locking them up for life?

dennissabre 22-06-2008 04:43 AM

Is this for the HM's or in general?

andyman 22-06-2008 04:48 AM

lol not for hm's unless they have done evil crimes. 20 years then u die, plus 20 years is long enough for any re-trial if the law has got it wrong. But would life as in rest of there life in prison be the best way?

Definately for some crimes and yes life should mean life!
Your not one of the PEOPLE Alex knows are you?

We can if you want but I tell you now i never like arguing so any kind of row is never my cup of tea.

ok........ rows on death suck

PS, although it will probably never happen, I think we should have the death penalty brought back, if only to free up some prison spaces, perhaps we may find room for the likes of Naomi Campbell then

Murdering a criminal is not suffering- the easy way out. Those people who destroy the lives of others deserve to suffer and should be imprisoned with removal of all human rights.

I agree with that 100%... I think most prisoners on death row learn to live with the fact that they're doomed to die... it'd be much worse to literally rot in jail for the rest of your life and people who have committed particularly heinous crimes deserve that but it just doesn't seem to happen.

Yes, I think we should have the Death Penalty in cases which we are 100% certain that the individual has caused the serious crime. (mass murder etc)

Otherwise our prison system will be even more full. They are full as it is. The problem with full prisons is us tax payers. We will have to pay MORE for their education and their food.

The government release criminals from these prisons (aka - Hotels) far too early in an attempt to stop Prisons Overcrouding. How are criminals going to react to this easy system. By comminting more crimes of course!

Prisons are a joke these days. Prisoners arent scared of prisons at all. The living style in prisons is way to leniant!

Theres one not so far away from me and I know someone whos been in it. He said it was just like a hotel where you can't leave. Supposed to have decent quilts (as in proper ones, not those scratchy things in films) and TV's/PS2's in their cells etc.

Might as well go and murder someone then you can go and have that for 15 years instead of paying for it.

That in particular, together with everything else you mention is ANOTHER great reason to get tough on crimminals if we really mean were getting tough on crime.

Its the least politians can do if parliment really is insistant on not bringing back the death penalty even though public oppinion would. The very least they can do is make prisons a place of punishment and nothing but punishment.
Somehow though despite being told the government is going to listen to the people I get the feeling 5 star luxury in prisons is here to stay.
It makes me mad:mad: (well not to the point of a red face) sometimes when I get stuck away from home I am tempted myself to go break into a nearbye shop, as inside a prison would be cheaper and more comfortable than finding a near bye Premier Inn, and I'd get a free taxi there too.

Strangely enough Tony Robinson was on the TV finishing his series on the history of law and order, and covered the bit where they had mass public hangings for even trivial offences.

In the end Juries were reluctant to send people to the gallows, so the mass hangings as a deterrent in the end failed to achieve what they were supposed to.

If the sentence can be death, some juries may very well be reluctant to convict.

dennissabre 22-06-2008 07:53 PM

I think the Dealth Penalty is appropriate in some crimes but who would carry it out?

Kore 22-06-2008 09:49 PM

Firing squad. It'll be cheaper.

I've heard electric chair would cost thousands each time it's used!!

Or for a murder, leaving them in a room with the victims family whilst unable to defend themselves would be good enough. Let the b*stards suffer :spin2:

I'm quite sadistic aren't I .. oh well :joker:

Matt10k 23-06-2008 02:47 PM

I don't think we should have it. I looked it up and apprently, it costs, on average 38% more, keeping someone on death row, than total cost of life without parole sentences in the US.

Also, there are cases where people may have been innocent- if they are kept in jail, they have a chance to appeal which I think is fair.

Then as others have said, death in some respects is an easy escape. Many serial killers actually want the death penalty. Many spree killers actually commit suicide at the end of their attacks...

I think bringing back the death penalty would be a step backwards.

dcmcak 24-06-2008 01:18 AM

i think we should have some form of tougher crime. not sure whether death is the way, but whatever will make people realise. crime rates are going up now and if people get caught they get like 30 years at the most. plus, jails aren't tough enough. death may or may not be the way, but either way we really need to get tougher

Princess 24-06-2008 01:34 AM

I don't think we should have death row. Its baribic. I do think they should give actual life sentences though, rather then just 20 years and prisons life should be much tougher.

Yeah i can see where your coming from..

If they don't bring back the death penalty, at least make Prisons tougher so criminals will NOT want to go back there!

andyman 24-06-2008 02:44 AM

problem is the human rights come into play... But what about the family whos lil girl was raped and murderd, the father who lost his lil boy after a hit and run but the drivers gets away with a fine, the victims familes who have to live with the pain... Think about if sombody killed your mother or father or brother or nephew...would u be happy that the person or person who did the evil crime is only locked up? The human rights protect the evil scum but there are no human rights for the victims.

Ashleee:) 24-06-2008 02:50 AM

Prison is a party for most prisoners these days. Im not sure if we should bring it back, but the prisons are too overcrowded and the prospect of going to prison just isnt scary enough for a lot of criminals. Life should mean life, not a 20year party of playing poker, pool and bum love.

Ross 24-06-2008 03:53 AM

Yah, we should.
