Homophobia.

I'm Bi right, and everyday i hear the word "Gay" as a "Cuss" a way of offending people, sometimes me. I understand that some people can't except gay people because of there religion but they don't have to be so rude about it.

This one religious girl at school, the quite girl, thought she was really nice, was talking to her today in science. We were talking about an open lesbian in our year. She said " OMG! Lesbian's and Gays should be shot, sorry yeah, actually, im not." It was really rude and uncalled for. This other boy started humping me, really humping me, enjoying it, and then i said "Stop man I'm trying to do work!" He continued to hump. Then i said " Stop! I'm busy! Do it later." In a very sarcastic way! He stopped and was like "Everyone hear that Loukas is gay!!!"

What's the point, people cannot help how they are, they cannot choose there sexuality. I like being BI, I like having girls best friends, to help them with there boyfriend problems and stuff. But i can't be who i am at school.

I can't express who i am. I have to be a completely different person, locked in as a straight boy. I guess that's life sometimes..

What do you think of homophobic people?
What do you think of the word "Gay" as an insult?

Conzors 03-07-2008 10:42 PM

I'm gay :]
LONDON GAY PRIDE 2008 SATURDAY<3
-had to say it-

Uhm.
I don't mind people using gay as long as it's not meant in an offensive context.
However, in my opinion, there's no justification for the word 'fag' [unless referring to a cigarette]
&That is one word I find extremely offensive [considering I'm someone that isn't easy to offend]

I also believe that words such as '****' and other variations are totally unacceptable as it makes a mockery of the sexuality, and personally, I find that quite offensive too
I can take it as a joke but only in very few cases when it's meant as a joke, and delivered that way; However I don't believe it should be used to refer to gay people.

I used to get homophobic abuse at school and I wasn't even out.
All my mates know and there's no issues with it.

Rex=Legend 03-07-2008 10:51 PM

'Gay' as a slang term for something **** does not indicate homophobia , im gay and I use 'gay' myself as in 'that gay ****ing toaster'.

Homophobic people are twats though. Utter twats. Who gives a **** who ****s who as long as we aint harming anybody else? Then they say in this chav way ''Coz it aint natural innit''... ''well how is it not natural?'' ... ''coz you gotta get a girl pregnant at age of 15 like me innit , dats natural'' ... ''right mate''.

Seriously , theirs no excuse for homophobia.

Shaun 03-07-2008 10:52 PM

Children are immature and I wouldn't expect the playground to be gay-friendly any time soon.

I sometimes use "gay" as an insult - but I have a few gay/bi friends who get annoyed by it so I try not to use it.

Rex=Legend 03-07-2008 10:57 PM

I personaly think though , as long as your in the right circles , 2008 is a great time to be gay if you ignore all the fundamental religious bollocks. Being gay is even 'in' [annoyingly so] in many pop culture outlets. Its almost seen as being a cool thing to be.

Im always told im incredibly straight for a gay person , however. I dont take kindly to gay people who think they are special because they are gay. I know mates who , once turned gay , ditched their life long male friends to go and hang out with the lasses and be a girl. The 'look at me im sooo ****ing campxXx!!!~~' crowd annoy me to death.

Not cool.

I understand what your saying but when they call me Gay they mean Homo, Like they see it as a disease or something. They call me other names, fag and sugar puff, just to name a couple. I agree with everything else tho.

Sugar Puff is laughable.
That's.. pathetic.

If you see in my previous post, I've stated that ****+the variations are offensive, IMO.
&Fag is just unacceptable.

Talk to a teacher about it?
I'm sure you can do something about it as it'd be homophobia?
I was using a teacher's laptop at school and they can get reported for it and stuff o__O
It's like. on the personal records along with racism etc.

I personally don't mind Queen being used unless it's aimed at me.
I don't like it [unless used in a jokey context] because it makes me feel singled out but I don't think it's offensive.

&I agree with Spitfire.

I understand what you are saying. If they are insulting your sexuality , that aint cool , man. The point I was making was that its sort of automatic to use 'gay' as a slang term for stuff we dont like now , and I dont particularly find that offensive as people dont mean to be homophobic when they say 'this is gay'.

Almost all the swear words we use come form something sexual anyway , if you stop to think about it :joker:.

I think it's pretty much the same as words in other debates on here,**** and ******.It depends on how it's said,in what context.
A lot of Gays use the words themselves.I always remember a 'Gay pride event'that i once saw in London and the slogan that was being shouted was 'we're here,we're queer'.

Bells 03-07-2008 11:06 PM

I'm sorry you're made to feel that way. Life can be really cruel sometimes. You seem to be coping very well so far, though. Regarding your questions, I think homophobes are generally either very religious, or ignorant because they have led sheltered lives. People should be left free to make their own choices and decisions, and yet we seem to be restrained by certain 'ideal' ways of living our lives. And most of the time, they're not any better.

Also, in the case of religious people - despite the fact that they may not agree with the concept, or that they wouldn't become gay/bisexual themselves, surely they should be tolerant of other people and let other people choose their own paths. It makes no sense for people to shut out others because of their sexuality. Like any form of discrimination, it's wrong - but unfortunately it exists in the world and you have to cope with it as best as you can, whether it be through confronting others or just ignoring them. As for the word 'gay' as an insult, I have used it in the past but realise that it can be considered offensive. Words generally tend to be thrown about really loosely amongst young people today.

In my circle , not at all , in fact , queen is hillarious. Its just used when a gay person does something particulary gay or self parodying.

AlexBigBrother 03-07-2008 11:08 PM

im really confused with homosexuality, ive never understood it!
what age are u wen u realise you dont find women attractive?? surely just in your brain it is set to find the opposite sex attractive?

MrGaryy 03-07-2008 11:08 PM

It's the homophobes that should be shot!

I hate the term gay as an adjective like, "ugh, those shoes are gay". I decked a guy before when I heard him say thats our maths book was gay. (I was having a bad day).

There are plenty of other words you can use. Sh*t, rubbish, vile, repulsive, horrific, mingin, disgusting, rank, rancid. Using the word gay only show that you have an extremly limited vocabulary.

Rocko 03-07-2008 11:09 PM

Like several other threads, it's about context.

I have a couple of gay friends who often use gay in a negative context,

e.g. "My effin gay computer just crashed again".
"Damn stupid gay coursework! Gay, gay, gay, how gay is that lecturer, giving us 2 days to finish it"
"Dude, don' be gay mun"

vs

"Oh, he's nasty because he's gay"

My opinion on homophobic people is that they just have certain sets of beliefs in which gays/lesbians don't fit in to their ideals of 'normal'. It's unfortunate, but life's a bitch.

On the upside, the world is a big place and there are plenty of people that will accept you for who you are.

My teacher is gay. She's openly lesbian and i she knows im BI. I tell her, she has huge Assembly's about . It does nothing. It goes on there record and stuff but yeah they just conitinue. I ignore them. I will continue too. What's a guy to do. Our head is a Lesbian to.

Tom 03-07-2008 11:10 PM

Controversial opinion here but I support homophobia in a way. Some people find it to be immoral because of the religion and the bible, and some religious people can't change their views. I'm semi religious and believe in certain things, but some people are sort of contradictory (myself included) who say that its immoral to be gay, yet they're the ones having sex before marriage and arguing with people etc. But the most hated family in America just take it to extremes. Theres beliefs (and whether agreed with by the majority or not people are entitled to them) but then theres just sickening and an embarrassment to an entire religion.

However, I can see both sides and I don't see the point in it. It doesn't affect me in any way so who am I to judge who other people want to jump into bed with? Men can sleep with other men, and I won't be sleeping with other men but still why do I have the right to condemn someone else for it, because its clearly not going to affect me?

Anyway my opinions split on it, do I go from the Christian point of view but then contradict myself for other aspects of my own life or do I view it from the "I couldn't give two sh*ts what other people get up to" perspective yet go against God? Its OK for complete atheists to say "God isn't real, follow your heart" etc but its just not that simple when you're in a religious frame of mind.

I believe I'm born gay.
I realized it properly at 12, but looking back, I was probably as young as 4/5.

There.. isn't really much to not understand.
