London Gay Pride 2008

Thought I'd post this for anyone remotely interested, plus it's nice considering the homophobia topic which is quite a negative way of discussing the gay community ^__^;;

Yep, Gay Pride's back :]
&I attended [obviously, wouldn't miss it]
Was anyone else there?

I went last year but it wasn't really a big deal so this year, me+5 of my mates dressed up and went in costume.
In the end we had angel, devil butch, bitch, drag and fairy [although she didn't come until later so she's not really in any pics]
&yes, I am wearing angel wings.

^us in our costumes at my mates house.

So we went, watched the Parade which was good, but not as good as last years?
&the men weren't as fit, but was still pretty cool heh.

We went over to the main stage and watched MOST of the lineup, including;;
»Sandi Thom<3.
»Stuart Miles [Blue Peter] and Christian Jessen [Embarrassing Illnesses]
»Amrick Channa from Hed Kandi.
»Sir Ian McKellen<3.
»Michael Grey<3.
»Basshunter<333. [He was amazing, a real crowd pleaser. He took his shirt off and touched the hands of the audience]
»Dicky&Dolly<33333.
»Freema Agyeman.
»Therese.
»Patty Boulaye.
»Doctor Who, on the huge screen in Trafalgar.

We met Freema Agyeman and Dicky [Richard BB7] and they were both so lovely [especially as I'm a huge Doctor Who fan and although I hated Martha in DW, I loved her in Torchwood; and Richard is one of my fave housemates of all time]

The whole day was totally amazing and some really inspiring words were shared from a lot of the guests [especially Sir Ian McKellen].
The crowd were also really up for it. Everyone seemed to really enjoy the music [especially basshunter] and my mates even set me up to get kissed by this random blonde guy and videoed it! [the boyfriend doesn't mind, he WANTS to see the vid xD]

OH.
and this REALLY nice professional photographer person.
took some shots of me, and gave me his card.
I just got them back last night and he's done some amaazing work;;

Soyeahh.
Just thought I'd share this for anyone who wanted to read about it.
More pictures of us, the lineup, and from the day on my myspace if you're interested lol.

I'm happy to answer any questions and would love to see your thoughts. =)

WOW!!! Looks like you had a real fun day, and it seems lovely whether.
I liked your fancy dress theme too, devil butch, bitch and drag.
This reminded me of bumping ito a neighbour who asked which fancy dress I was going to on a similar theme to yours, only this time I was not best please as I was just in a mood having just finished work and was only off just to get a Burger King
Now when I bump into that same neighbour I always make sure the contact is harder and I lead with my stronger fist first :joker:

I'm glad you had a great time though the pics are lovely and thanks for putting them up on the site:thumbs:

MarkWaldorf 07-07-2008 02:30 PM

That's because straight people can already walk down a street holding hands, kiss, and generally show that they're straight without getting mobbed, thrown looks or having something said.

Gay Pride is only one day a year where gay people can go somewhere and be themselves without having to worry.

Straight people attend Gay Pride too, just to support.

bigbr0ther 07-07-2008 03:49 PM

What do you mean there's no such thing as straight pride? There is a straight pride movement, it's just not as big.

I thought Richard was a bit of a bully in BB7 but he seems nice in the picture.

Not just one day though

There are a few gay prides throughout the year. 2 others I know of are Blackpool and Manchester which are in May and August in that order.

There's Brighton too
But I was referring to London :P

Looks like you had a great time
I'm so jealous I want to meet Freema and Richard.

Jack_ 07-07-2008 04:56 PM

Glad you had a good time.

You're so lucky that you got to meet Richard, he was probably my 2nd/3rd fave housemate in BB7.

Is he really a "Sexual Terrorist"? He didn't seem like one in the house.

Noel 07-07-2008 04:57 PM

London Gay Pride looks AMAZING! The Belfast one is crap. There's a parade, then one "famous" person sings. And then they just play music everywhere. But yours looks fantastic!
And you met Richard! =O *glares*
It sounds like you had a great day! Our Gay Pride isn't until August, so I hope it's better this year ^___^

xDramatick 07-07-2008 05:12 PM

LOL! Jack, he didn't come across that way, but I'm sure he is ;D

Awh Bradley/Noel[LOL], I hope it's better for youu :]
London's is generally pretty good, but I've heard Manchester/Brighton's are great.

Fom 07-07-2008 05:38 PM

I cannot WAIT till gay pride in manchester, it is massive in manchester as Manchester is pretty much the Music and Gay capital of the country. Its a 4 day event and the whole of the Gay village is closed off and there are stages everywhere.

Im going to be so drunk :D

I'm going to Manchester pride this year, I've never been before but I'm really looking forward to it. My gay mates said it's great so I'm tagging along. :dance2:

Lauren 07-07-2008 05:57 PM

Wow, that looks so fun! Can I just say - your costume = AWESOME. Love the rose on your hat!!

To Legend - I've also heard it's an amazing event, so I might tag along with a few too if any of my gay friends are going to it.

It's only half an hour on a train too so it's ideal, it should be great from what people have said!

Nope, my mate is sorting it all out for me, I didn't even know you needed a band, but they've been a couple of times so they'll have hopefully got it all sorted out right.

But yeah, shall see ya there.

Have you been before? Is it supposed to be as good as or better than London?

Tom 07-07-2008 06:17 PM

Never been to the London one, been to the Manchester one before but I only go for the cheap drinks anyway  Some of the events are alright. It is a pretty good weekend though, but it costs.

Yeah so I've heard. I'm preparing myself for that by not going out much beforehand, then again I say that.

Eh it should be good.

Fom 07-07-2008 08:55 PM

If your going Manchester Pride then I recommend getting your ticket now, the price doubles in like a week. Its 12.50 now, and it doubles to about 25ish on the 14th July. But it should be great! :D
Ive seen pictures of it last year when all my mates went, I didnt go because i was skint but it is packed to the brim, streets are literally impossible to move in haha especially canal street.
