Sixth Form?

Is anyone else starting/going back into sixth form this year? I'm starting it next month and I have NO idea of what to expect...so I (and others if you have any questions) just wanted to ask those who have been/are in sixth form to give the general idea on things.

Thanks. :D

I've been through sixth form so if I anyone wants to ask me anything I will be happy to help.

If its anything like my Sixth Form, youll like it.

We have parties, dress up days, events and stuff, and the teachers are alright. Thing with me is, I got bored around April time and started to skive lessons and stuff. But Im alright with going back, cos its my last year.

Just enjoy it. Try not to get bored cos it makes you depressed LOL

Its better, you get far more freedom. You get treated like an adult rather than a student.

well i had a bad experience of 6th form but that was just my school,i went to my schools sixth form and it sucked,so i changed college`s after the first year when id done my AS levels. It was just a crap 6th form tbh,i got treat like i was still in yr 11,the teachers were unreliable and uninterested in the first years and the choice of subjects offered was so small.I have to say though college is a great experience and helps you to mature into an adult, enjoy all the nights out you`ll have loads of fun but it is very hard work also:tongue:

It depends.

If you go to a college = you have a LOT more freedom.
If you go to a sixth form = you have a bit more freedom.

You get more free time, and it's easier to 'skive' as such. You can kinda think of most lessons as optional (though I'd advise not to miss many!).

Now, about homework - - most of my friends didn't get much, but my particular 6th form was strict in this respect and I got quite a lot.

I didnt go to sixth form because everyone just dosses and you cant get proper work. i left after one year of colege to just start working full time.

College is different to sixth form and I went to college but I didn't find it that different from school at all.

Fom 18-08-2008 06:47 PM

The only difference between sixth form and normal college is:

Sixth Form = 16 - 19 year olds
Normal College = 16+

The freedom is down to the college you go to really, but no doubt you get more. I have only been too sixth forms as It's nicer to mix in with people your own age.

Most people are the same ages on courses, theres the odd person thats a year older but thats about it.

My friend went to a Normal college and was in the class with a 26 year old haha. You get 40 year olds going back to do a course, it must be really weird, Cant imagine going to a normal college.

A lot of colleges limit 16-19 year olds to daytime and 20+ to night courses though.

Not near me they don't, all the colleges I have been to that aren't sixth forms have been very mixed bunches. 18 Year olds with 25 Year olds with 16 Year olds.

I want to go to sixth form next year but im still unsure x

Legend 18-08-2008 08:41 PM

Personally I hate it, because I'm sick of getting treated no different to when I was in year 7. Letters home, phone calls home to mummy, and they do this to the 18 year olds too, so if that part of it doesn't bother you, then try 6th form but I regretted it by December last year and tried to transfer to college for the January term.

I picked and chose when I turned up to my lessons, didn't bother with any homework and I've came out with rubbish grades which is all because of the school. If I'd have went to college, I'd have probably done a lot better.

I personally hate it, but others love it, I suppose it depends if it bothers you or not to be treated like a child, and having everything go through your parents.

BigSister 18-08-2008 09:34 PM

personaly i enjoyed college but i think if you want to go to college then go because at mine they didnt chase up after you and send letters home etc etc.
But im sure you will enjoy it mark

Willz 18-08-2008 09:36 PM
