How the funeral went! x
 

Hi, i dont really know if anyone wants to hear about this but i know a few people have been asking so i thought id let you all know how Nan's funeral went. You dont have to read if you dont want too! :thumbs:

Nan's funeral was on the 12th September [Friday]. Lots of my family arrived and it was nice to see family/friends that i havent seen for ages. Most of them didnt know i was Christina as they hadnt seen me since i was around the age of 6/7. LOADS of people turned up which was really nice and alot of people I didnt even know lol. The herse which had the coffin arrived at 1.15pm and i said i wouldnt look at it because i knew if i did i would just start crying. But then i saw my best friends mum and my own mum and they were crying which set me off lol. My nan's best friend Anne came up to me and held my hand which reminded me of something nan would of done :(

As i was one of the main family members i was allowed to go in the car that followed the herse. In the first car was me, my dad, my 2 cousins and my baby cousins. Then a couple more cousins and my nan's friend were in the following car. We slowly followed the herse down our road and then we turned into another road [which is where my nan used to live and where my dad and auntie were born]. We stopped outside number 61 for a minuete so she could say goodbye. Then we drove to the cremotorium.

When we got there everyone else was there, so we arrived fashionably late haha. Then the men carried nan's coffin [which was soo small] into the cremotorium chapel. And then it started. When the vicar [who i knew from primary school] was reading out the info about Nan's life instead of adressing her as Mable [her name] he adressed her as nan [as she was known as nan by everyone.. family/friends/randoms]. Then we sang a few hymns one of which was 'All things bright and beautiful' that was chosen by me as when nan was alive i remeber her saying the lyrics without realising and at the time i thought it was strange but then i thought that would be a nice song choice. And then the vicar read out my poem which i must admit had everyone crying. I myself was crying like mad. Then my cousin Beverley read out a poem and at the end she said 'Goodbye Nan' which made me cry even more lol. Then the vicar said any family members who want to go and stand by Nan's coffin while he says the final prayer are welcome to. So me, dad, my both aunties, 3 cousins and my baby cousin went up and held the coffin while we said bye. Then we watched as the curtains closed over nan's coffin and she was gone.

It was a lovley cermony and the wake afterwoods was lovley. Except for the fact that my mum completley embarassed me by trying to set me up with an 18 year old family member. Yes.. she and most people were drunk. It was a shocker as ive never seen mum drunk in my life haha. But she had a good time and she deserved it. Loads of people told me show lovley the poem was and how Nan would be proud. So i was happy and i reckon Nan would be happy now. I think im finally able to rest and be happy. But i wont ever forget her. RIP. And thanks for reading.

P.S - Instead of everyone bringing flowers we asked for them to make a donation to the 'Crossroads' charity which were the charity who looked after nan. The carers wore wonderful expecially a lady named Carol who is now a very close family friend.

Thanks i think they wanted to give something in Nan's name that was close to her heart. I think weve actually raised over £300 pounds and its only a small charity in the area so im sure it will be appreciated x

Btw for those of you who may not know what 'poem' im talking about here it is. It was written by me about my nan:

NAN

I awoke that day feeling groggy,
The sky was grey and the weather foggy,
Mum said you were ill, Dad did too,
It was hard to take in but I knew it was true,
So I sat by your bed, and held your fragile hand,
Your pulse running strong but slowly dying down,
And it was then that you fell asleep and God took you to his land.

But even though you are not near,
And we cannot touch or see you,
A person like you will always be here,
We know that much is true!

And as we all sit here today,
This is what we must say:

‘God saw that you were getting tired,
And a cure was not to be,
He then put his arms around you,
And whispered come to me,
With tearful eyes we watched you,
And have seen you pass away
Although we love you dearly,
We couldn’t make you stay,
A golden heart stopped beating,
Hard working hands at rest,
God broke our hearts to prove to us,
He only takes the best.’

A women like you is hard to loose,
Hard to leave,
And even harder to forget,
Our Nan forever,
And a women I’m glad to have met.

Yeah there not very nice i just hope i dont have to go to any more too soon. The only bit about that day that i can say i enjoyed was the wake.. seeing all my family and friends was nice x

Yeah i remember when I went to my grans partner funeral in july the wake was nice there as well and it was good seeing my cousins:hug:

Aww lol. Some of my cousins didnt come as they were quite young but alot of the older ones did :hugesmile: x

Old peoples coffins always are tiny. My nana wanted burying so we did and when we went back to the grave about a week later after it was filled in the hole was tiny, it was something daft like two/three steps long :joker:
